Dr. Dre<\/a>\u2019s The Chronic<\/em>, Cheap Trick<\/a> at Budokan<\/em> and Dusty Springfield<\/a>\u2019s Dusty in Memphis<\/em> are among the Library of Congress<\/a>\u2019 2020 inductees<\/a> into the National Recording Registry<\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n

Whitney Houston\u2019s \u201cI Will Always Love You,\u201d Village People\u2019s \u201cY.M.C.A.\u201d and Glen Campbell\u2019s \u201cWichita Lineman\u201d also featured on the diverse list of 25 recordings deemed \u201caural treasures worthy of preservation because of their cultural, historical and aesthetic importance to the nation\u2019s recorded sound heritage,\u201d the Library of Congress said Wednesday.<\/span><\/p>\n

Other inductees include Tina Turner\u2019s 1984 LP Private Dancer<\/em>, Selena\u2019s 1990 album Ven Conmigo<\/em>, the original Broadway cast recording of Fiddler on the Roof,<\/em> Allan Sherman\u2019s \u201cHello Muddah, Hello Fadduh\u201d and Mister Rogers Sings 21 Favorite Songs From \u2018Mister Rogers\u2019 Neighborhood\u2019<\/i>.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe National Recording Registry is the evolving playlist of the American soundscape. It reflects moments in history captured through the voices and sounds of the time,\u201d Librarian of Congress Carla Hayden said in a statement<\/a>. <\/span>\u201cWe received over 800 nominations this year for culturally, historically or aesthetically significant recordings to add to the registry. As genres and formats continue to expand, the Library of Congress is committed to working with our many partners to preserve the sounds that have touched our hearts and shaped our culture.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

This year\u2019s historical recordings include a radio broadcast of the 1951 National League tie-breaking baseball game between the New York Giants and the Brooklyn Dodgers (featuring \u201cThe Shot Heard \u2018Round the World\u201d), an Arch Oboler radio play from 1939 and the Boston Symphony\u2019s mid-performance announcement of the assassination of John F. Kennedy on November 22nd, 1963. <\/span><\/p>\n

This year\u2019s inductees span nearly 90 years \u2014 from Paul Whiteman and his Orchestra\u2019s 1920 single \u201cWhispering\u201d to Colin Currie\u2019s Best Classical Contemporary Composition Grammy-winning Percussion Concerto<\/i> from 2008.<\/span><\/p>\n

Cheap Trick\u2019s Rick Nielsen said of the induction of their 1978 live LP, one of Rolling Stone<\/em>\u2019s 50 Greatest Live Albums of All Time<\/a>: \u201cWe are honored that our breakout album, Cheap Trick at Budokan<\/em>, is being added to the National Recording Registry of the Library of Congress. We thank our loyal fans who nominated us, and our favorite Rockford school librarian who got the ball rolling!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
