DJ D-Nice<\/a> spoke with Trevor Noah<\/a> about how he became the quarantine king with his Homeschoolin\u2019 social distancing dance parties on Tuesday\u2019s installment of The Daily Social Distancing Show<\/i>.<\/p>\n

D-Nice \u2014 a true hip-hop multi-hyphenate who\u2019s worked as a DJ, producer, rapper and photographer \u2014 told Noah that the idea began when he decided to beat the boredom of self-isolation by firing up Instagram Live for the first time, playing some songs and sharing old stories with friends. One friend, DJ Clark Kent, encouraged D-Nice to actually start DJing over IG live, so he launched his Homeschoolin\u2019 party last week and quickly saw the viewership skyrocket. His Saturday event drew more than 100,000 viewers, including celebrities like Jennifer Lopez, Drake, Oprah and Michelle Obama.<\/p>\n

\u201cI froze up for a bit,\u201d D-Nice admitted when he saw the former First Lady log in. \u201cEven though I DJ\u2019d for Michelle and the former president, it was still kind of surreal. I\u2019m used to being in their world, and now they\u2019re in my world; they came over to see what I was up to.\u201d<\/p>\n

D-Nice added that the sets he\u2019s spun for Homeschoolin\u2019 have been very different from those he\u2019d play in a club because there\u2019s no live audience to react and cater to. Everything, he said, has been from the heart, and he expects to keep following that lead once social distancing ends.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think that this is going to become the norm,\u201d he said. \u201cOther DJs have called me to say, like, \u2018Dude, you reminded me of what it felt like to actually just play music that you love.\u2019 So I think people are going to start incorporating that into their sets. And I think people were in that IG Live to hear me play and to experience it, and the fact that they were engaged \u2014 I played nine hours in there! \u2014 it was just fun.\u201d<\/p>\n

At the end of the interview, D-Nice said his next IG Live DJ set \u2014 which starts today<\/a>, March 25th, at 6:30 p.m. ET \u2014 will be a partnership with Michelle Obama\u2019s When We All Vote organization. \u201cThey came up with an idea to throw a \u2018Couch Party,\u2019 where we can galvanize people to register to vote,\u201d D-Nice said. \u201cIt\u2019s a party with a purpose.\u201d<\/p>\n
