\u201cHoly Grail,\u201d the opening salvo of Jay-Z\u2019s<\/a> 2013 album Magna Carta Holy Grail<\/em>, was always an ostentatious affair. Justin Timberlake<\/a> sings what seems to be a sexual innuendo where a reproductive body part is compared to a \u201choly grail.\u201d Jay-Z delivers part of Nirvana\u2019s \u201cSmell Like Teen Spirit\u201d in a very off-key and monotone voice. The best part of the song is Jay trying to convince listeners that his then-toddler, Blue, demanded that he \u201cremind you niggas \/ Fuck that shit y\u2019all talking \u2019bout, I\u2019m the nigga.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThis was the map for the album,\u201d Jay-Z told Zane Lowe in 2013<\/a>. \u201cIt\u2019s why I couldn\u2019t give it up for the [Watch The<\/em>] Throne <\/em>album. It fit The Throne<\/em> thematically. I was like, \u2018I can\u2019t, man. This is the centerpiece to my next.\u2019 I said, \u2018There\u2019s records like \u201cParis\u201d and \u201cOtis,\u201d and this record is going to get lost on this album.\u201d<\/p>\n

Over the weekend, during an songwriting battle on Instagram Live, The-Dream<\/a> shared the original demo of the song \u2014 with himself singing Timberlake\u2019s chorus. Credited as a writer and producer on the original song, The-Dream\u2019s version is far more captivating than what fans originally received. His voice slathered in AutoTune and reverb sells the drama and inherent ridiculousness of a song that\u2019s essentially the plot of The Da Vinci Code<\/em>, but slightly more horny. \u201cI wasn\u2019t tight \u2013 much respect to @jtimberlake,\u201d The Dream told Tidal on Twitter<\/a>. \u201cI wasn\u2019t tight at all. However, I did feel that from the pain and what it meant for me.. to voice that and to sing that.. it just meant something.\u201d<\/p>\n

Response to the song was so overwhelming the demo is now streaming on Tidal<\/a>.<\/p>\n
