{"id":805886,"date":"2020-03-31T11:31:18","date_gmt":"2020-03-31T17:31:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.summitdaily.com\/?p=381221"},"modified":"2020-03-31T11:31:18","modified_gmt":"2020-03-31T17:31:18","slug":"the-ski-resort-industry-is-hoping-for-federal-relief-from-its-2-billion-in-coronavirus-losses","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/ksmt\/local-news\/the-ski-resort-industry-is-hoping-for-federal-relief-from-its-2-billion-in-coronavirus-losses\/","title":{"rendered":"The ski resort industry is hoping for federal relief from its $2 billion in coronavirus losses"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.summitdaily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/03\/P3152669-1024x768.jpeg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p>Dave Byrd has spent the past two weeks dispelling the notion that ski areas won\u2019t feel the pain of the coronavirus shutdown because they pulled the plug so late in the season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is roiling everyone,\u201d said the director of regulatory affairs for the National Ski Areas Association, which last week estimated the country\u2019s 460 ski areas in 37 states could suffer $2 billion in losses stemming from the shutdown. \u201cSki areas did not dodge a bullet here.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Byrd is corralling lawmakers in the Congressional Ski and Snowboard Caucus to amplify the resort industry\u2019s voice. Just because the sudden shutdown of the ski season came late in the season does not mean the industry will emerge from the pandemic unscathed.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The list of losses is long. And the industry is lined up hoping for federal assistance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are working those levers in Congress. We don\u2019t know what the actual shape of any relief might be but we are looking for economic assistance and we are willing to offer up some pretty big conditions on any aid we get,\u201d Byrd said.
