{"id":805949,"date":"2020-04-01T15:52:58","date_gmt":"2020-04-01T21:52:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/?p=976850"},"modified":"2020-04-01T15:52:58","modified_gmt":"2020-04-01T21:52:58","slug":"nick-lowe-announces-new-ep-drops-lay-it-on-me-baby","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/ksmt\/music-news\/nick-lowe-announces-new-ep-drops-lay-it-on-me-baby\/","title":{"rendered":"Nick Lowe Announces New EP, Drops \u2018Lay It on Me Baby\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/NickLowe.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/nick-lowe\/\" id=\"auto-tag_nick-lowe\" data-tag=\"nick-lowe\">Nick Lowe<\/a> has dropped a new song, \u201cLay It on Me Baby,\u201d off his upcoming EP, <em>Lay It on Me<\/em>, out June 5th via Yep Roc Records.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJust like a fish in a babbling brook\/I\u2019m nibbling at your hook,\u201d he sings over a surf rock riff, backed by Nashville outfit Los Straitjackets. \u201cDon\u2019t let me be the one that got away.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In a statement, Lowe described the genesis of \u201cLay It on Me Baby,\u201d which goes back to the late Sixties. \u201cCBS had an inspired idea; they invented the sampler LP,\u201d he recalled. \u201cIt was called <em>The Rock Machine Turns You on<\/em> and consisted of a dozen tracks, each one lifted from the current album releases of 12 of the label\u2019s \u2018second tier\u2019 of talent. It was an unashamed promotional device and sold by the truckload. I had a copy, as did everyone I knew.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne night in London a few years back, I had Neil Brockbank and Bobby Irwin (my late friends and collaborators), \u2019round for dinner at my house,\u201d he continued. \u201cDuring what might be described as the \u2018port and cigars\u2019 part of the evening, we found ourselves riffing on the idea of producing a sampler for an imaginary record label of its imaginary artists.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe next day when the enormous cost and limited commercial appeal of such a project became clearer, our enthusiasm soon waned and most of the fruits of the evening are now lost. Two examples however remain. They are \u2018Restless Feeling\u2019 originally written for Coastline [and released on Nick\u2019s \u2018The Old Magic\u2019 LP] and \u2018Lay It on Me Baby\u2019 for Turk Collins.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"pmc-contextual-player\">\n<h3> Popular on Rolling Stone <\/h3>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><em>Lay It on Me<\/em> is Lowe\u2019s third EP in two years with Los Straitjackets, following&nbsp;2019\u2019s <em>Love Starvation\/Trombone<\/em> and 2018\u2019s <em>Tokyo Bay\/Crying Inside<\/em>.
