Lynyrd Skynyrd<\/a> have shared their first new song in nearly eight years as the Southern rockers unveiled \u201cLast of the Street Survivors,\u201d a play on their classic 1977 LP Street Survivors<\/em>. The track is available to stream and download for free for a week here<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

In recent days, Lynyrd Skynyrd hinted that they were \u201ccookin\u2019 up\u201d something for their social distancing fans. \u201cAs promised, here\u2019s a little gift from our Skynyrd family to yours,\u201d the band wrote<\/a> Thursday. \u201cWe want to thank everyone for making this possible. Stay safe and God bless.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cLast of the Street Survivors\u201d \u2014 which shares its name with the band\u2019s farewell tour \u2014 was penned by founding guitarist Gary Rossington alongside singer Johnny Van Zant, guitarist Ricky Medlocke and songwriter Tom Hambridge, and finds the Southern rockers reminiscing about their career and the band mates they lost.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201c<\/span>We played the Garden in New York City \/ We rocked the house down in New Orleans \/ We think about the ones we lost along the way,\u201d Van Zant: \u201cOut here on the 75 \/ Keeping the dream alive \/ Highway brothers and midnight riders \/ We\u2019re the last of the street survivors.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Lynyrd Skynyrd last released their 14th studio album Last of a Dyin\u2019 Breed<\/i> in 2012. However, in recent years, the band said they were working on new material for a 15th (and potentially final) album.<\/span><\/p>\n

The band were midway through the spring leg<\/a> of their ever-growing farewell tour when the coronavirus pandemic shut down the touring industry; the remaining date of that North American leg were postponed to September.<\/span><\/p>\n
