With My Chemical Romance<\/a>\u2019s reunion tour currently delayed by the coronavirus pandemic, Gerard Way<\/a> surprised fans with the release of some unfinished solo material the singer had been working on.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m calling all of this stuff Distraction Or Despair<\/em>, since that seems to be the two things I keep shifting between. Probably a lot of other people too,\u201d Way said of the four songs on Instagram<\/a> Saturday. \u201cBut I think only some of the tracks are tied to an \u2018album\u2019 of that name. I\u2019m just winging it, keeping it casual.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The four songs, uploaded onto Soundcloud, range from 14-second sound experiments (\u201cSuccess!\u201d) to the near-complete \u201cPhoning It In,\u201d which Way said he envisioned as a solo single.<\/span><\/p>\n

The singer also detailed each the history of each track on the song\u2019s respective SoundCloud pages: \u201cCrate Amp 2\u201d is Way \u201cmessing around with this Crate amp I got off of Reverb for cheap,\u201d while the Stooges-inspired \u201cWelcome to the Hotel\u201d is something Way envisioned for the release of his comic series Umbrella Academy Volume Three: Hotel Oblivion.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWith all this uncertainty I just wanted to start uploading some unreleased stuff. Just so people can check it out and have something to listen to. Just felt like sharing,\u201d Way added. \u201cIt feels good to share. Who knows if some of this stuff would have ever come out?\u201d Way also encouraged fans to contribute to the COVID-19 Response Fund<\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n

Following My Chemical Romance\u2019s comeback show<\/a> in Los Angeles, the band were forced to postpone<\/a> their Japan tour dates and cancel<\/a> Australian and New Zealand festivals due to the COVID-19 outbreak. The reunited band\u2019s North American trek<\/a>, beginning in September, remains on the schedule for now.<\/span><\/p>\n

Hey all, with all this uncertainty I just wanted to start uploading some unreleased stuff. Just so people can check it out and have something to listen to. Just felt like sharing. I think I have a bunch of this stuff, as Doug and I have been recording little bits here and there over the years. Some of these, like Phoning It In, were things that I planned on releasing as singles, and I may still do that at some point when I finish them, but I figured why not. It feels good to share. Who knows if some of this stuff would have ever come out? Oh yeah, the music is on my soundcloud, which I haven\u2019t really used in ages. The link is in my linktree, along with a link to the Covid-19 Response Fund. In case you are wondering, this is a picture of my vocal cords, from when I went to see the ear\/nose\/throat doc before embarking on this my chem journey, to make sure everything was in order.
