In his early days as an open-mic singer, Snider studied Prine\u2019s songwriting constantly, and he met his hero and worked for him as a runner while Prine was recording 1991\u2019s <i>The Missing Years<\/i>. Prine soon signed Snider to his<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span>label, Oh Boy Records, and took him on the road. The two performed together as recently as last year. \u201cHe created the job that I have,\u201d says Snider.<\/p>\n<p>Snider has been staging livestream solo concerts from his East Nashville practice space every Sunday morning, a format one fan compared to church. This week\u2019s was deeply moving: More than half of Snider\u2019s song requests were for covers of Prine, who is currently in a Nashville ICU suffering from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/covid-19\/\" id=\"auto-tag_covid-19\" data-tag=\"covid-19\">COVID-19<\/a>. Last Friday, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/john-prine-covid-19-update-977746\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Prine\u2019s wife Fiona said<\/a>, \u201cHe is very ill, and yet I remain hopeful that he can continue to fight this.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Snider played two of his favorite Prine deep cuts, both from 1978: \u201cCrooked Piece of Time\u201d and \u201cBruised Orange (Chain of Sorrow).\u201d Prine shared the story of writing \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-features\/john-prine-secrets-behind-classic-songs-976587\/\">Bruised Orange<\/a>,\u201d and other classics, in a recent <em>Rolling Stone<\/em> feature.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI want to send a quick love-you to the Prine\u2019s,\u201d Snider said. \u201cFight on John.
