Bruce Springsteen<\/a> paid tribute to John Prine<\/a>, who died on Tuesday<\/a> at the age of 73 from complications related to COVID-19.<\/p>\n

\u201cOver here on E Street, we are crushed by the loss of John Prine,\u201d Springsteen wrote on Twitter. \u201cJohn and I were \u2018New Dylans\u2019 together in the early 70s and he was never anything but the loveliest guy in the world. A true national treasure and a songwriter for the ages. We send love and prayers to his family.\u201d<\/p>\n

Both Prine and Springsteen had been hailed as the \u201cNew Dylans\u201d as they were coming up and making their indelible marks in the music world. The pair met backstage at a Bob Dylan show in the 1970s.<\/p>\n

\u201cPrine\u2019s stuff is pure Proustian existentialism. Midwestern mindtrips to the nth degree. And he writes beautiful songs,\u201d Dylan had said of Prine, via John Prine\u2019s official Facebook<\/a> page. \u201cI remember when Kris Kristofferson first brought him on the scene. All that stuff about Sam Stone the soldier junky daddy and Donald and Lydia, where people make love from ten miles away. Nobody but Prine could write like that.\u201d<\/p>\n

In 1988, Prine and Springsteen shared the stage to perform Prine\u2019s \u201cParadise\u201d as Asbury Park Press<\/em><\/a> noted. Springsteen later contributed backing vocals on \u201cTake a Look at My Heart\u201d from Prine\u2019s 1991 album, The Missing Years<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n
