When Juice WRLD<\/a> died of an accidental overdose<\/a> in December, a small subset of the population placed the blame at Future\u2019s feet.<\/p>\n

Juice WRLD infamously detailed<\/a> how he told Future<\/a> during their first meeting that he influenced the young Chicago rapper to try lean at a young age. \u201cWhen he told me that, I was like \u2018Oh shit. What the fuck have I done?’\u201d Future told Rolling Stone<\/em><\/a> in 2019. \u201cIt really bothered me. It bothered me a lot. More than that I thought it would bother me when he told me that.\u201d<\/p>\n

The duo would go on to collaborate for the full-length project, Wrld on Drugs<\/em>. In a new XXL<\/em><\/a> cover story, Future briefly shares his thoughts on the rapper\u2019s passing. \u201cIt was heartbreaking about Juice. Still to this day, I\u2019m heartbroken,\u201d Future said. \u201cRest in peace to Juice Wrld. He\u2019s a great artist. He had so much more to do.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cMe having an influence on that, I just feel like\u2026that is not my intention,\u201d he continued. \u201cMy intention was just to be me. I\u2019m just being me and what you get from it is what you get from it, but at the same time, I wouldn\u2019t want no one to go through anything to harm theyself or to bring death to theyself and Juice Wrld is a touchy situation. I\u2019m heartbroken by the whole thing. My heart goes out to his family, his mom.\u201d<\/p>\n

In January, the Cook County Medical Examiner\u2019s Office released a statement that Juice WRLD \u201cdied as a result of oxycodone and codeine toxicity.\u201d In December, federal agents and police stopped the rapper at Midway Airport in Chicago and searched his private plane, turning up 41 bags of marijuana, six bottles of prescription codeine cough syrup, two 9 mm pistols, a .40-caliber pistol, a high-capacity ammunition magazine and metal-piercing bullets, according to the Chicago Tribune<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Later in the interview, Future offers his opinion on the recent string of rapper deaths \u2014 Mac Miller, Nipsey Hussle, Pop Smoke \u2014 denying any greater trend. \u201cIt\u2019s like, a lot more rappers than back 10 years ago. So, now a lot of things more are going to occur. It\u2019s a lot of young rappers that\u2019s growing up super fast, that\u2019s getting money super quick and don\u2019t have classes on success,\u201d Future notes. \u201cYou got to know when enough is enough because you in control of your own destiny and you don\u2019t want to self-destruct.\u201d<\/p>\n
