Gorillaz<\/a> recruit Peter Hook<\/a> for their New Order-inspired new song \u201cAries,\u201d the latest installment in the cartoon rockers\u2019 Song Machine<\/em> series<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Damon Albarn and his animated outfit have ably assumed the musical costume of their featured guest, and \u2014 buoyed by Hook\u2019s signature bass sound \u2014 have created a track reminiscent of New Order\u2019s Factory Records heyday.<\/span><\/p>\n

The accompanying video, directed by Gorillaz chief animator Jamie Hewlett, finds the band\u2019s Albarn-avatar 2D and Murdoc riding a motorcycle along a photonegative landscape with a rust-colored sky. It\u2019s unclear when the video was created, but the characters appear to be practicing social distancing as they drive along the unpopulated streets. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cMake sure you stay in, you stay safe, and stay tuned,\u201d 2D says in a post-song message. \u201cOh yeah, and keep washing your hands.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHighly impatient and competitive, many Aries have the fighting spirit of your mythological ruler,\u201d Gorillaz guitarist Noodle said in a statement of \u201cAries,\u201d the current Zodiac sign. \u201cAries\u201d also features U.K. singer\/producer Georgia.<\/span><\/p>\n

Previous entries in the Song Machine series include \u201cMomentary Bliss<\/a>\u201d with Slowthai and Slaves as well as \u201cDesole<\/a>\u201d with Malian singer Fatoumata Diawara. <\/span><\/p>\n
