Neil Young<\/a> has released a new version of \u201cShut It Down\u201d in response to the COVID-19<\/a> pandemic. The track, originally released off last year\u2019s Colorado<\/em><\/a> with Crazy Horse, has been renamed \u201cShut It Down 2020.\u201d<\/p>\n

Young and his wife, actress Daryl Hannah, made a striking new video to accompany the song. It features clips of the band at Colorado\u2019s Studio in the Clouds  \u2014 where they shot the  Mountaintop<\/em><\/a> documentary \u2014 interspersed with scenes of the world in crisis.<\/p>\n

Healthcare workers are seen wearing masks and stacking boxes of medical supplies in England, as packed beaches in Florida flash across the screen. \u201cPeople tryin\u2019 to save this earth\/from an ugly death,\u201d Young warns. \u201cHave to shut the whole system down\/all around the planet.\u201d<\/p>\n

The \u201cShut It Down 2020\u201d video was made \u201cas a document of Earth\u2019s reaction to 2020\u2019s pandemic,\u201d Young wrote on his Archives<\/a> site. It was inspired by fans, who submitted letters to the site to express that the track has taken on a new meaning in this difficult time.<\/p>\n

\u201cIgnore the actions of world leaders who are too vain to wear masks,\u201d Young wrote<\/a>. \u201cThey are not leading. Putt your own vanity away for the good of your fellow man; wear a mask in public to stop the spread.\u201d<\/p>\n

Young has been aiding fans who are unable to see him live by posting vintage concerts<\/a> and performing his excellent Fireside Sessions<\/a>, taped at his home in Telluride, Colorado. His second show<\/a>, released on March 26th, included a rare \u201cOn the Beach,\u201d marking the fourth time he\u2019s performed the song since 1975. A third set will be released in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n

On Saturday, April 11th, Young will appear on Willie Nelson\u2019s At Home with Farm Aid<\/a>, a digital event that includes Nelson, John Mellencamp and Dave Matthews.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese are uncertain times,\u201d Young said in a statement. \u201cI wish you all the best as you care for our sick, the young and old who we love so much. Sending the best wishes to all the healthcare and government workers all over the world, to all the scientists who will learn and share with us the best ways to ensure survival in our world challenged.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cLet\u2019s all work together and stay positive that we will find a way,\u201d he continued. \u201cWith love to all, in all walks of life, all political persuasions, all colors. We will succeed working together for the good of our world as we are here together, hanging in the balance of nature.\u201d<\/p>\n
