Nick Lowe<\/a> played a handful of songs from his home in London for Rolling Stone<\/em>\u2018s \u201cIn My Room<\/a>,\u201d an IGTV series in which musicians perform while in quarantine in wake of the coronavirus pandemic.<\/p>\n

Accompanied by his son, Roy, Lowe kicked off with the somber \u201cTrombone<\/a>,\u201d a song he dropped last year off his EP, Starvation\/Trombone. \u201cI\u2019ve been told time\u2019s a healer,\u201d he sings, strumming his acoustic guitar.  \u201cStill I can\u2019t shake the love I lost.\u201d<\/p>\n

He then tears through his brand new song \u201cLay It On Me<\/a>,\u201d the self-titled track to his upcoming EP<\/a>, out June 5th. The collection of songs mark his third EP with the Nashville outfit Los Straitjackets.<\/p>\n

Lowe then performed the classic \u201c(What\u2019s So Funny \u2018Bout) Peace, Love, and Understanding,\u201d a song he wrote that became one of Elvis Costello\u2019s most beloved songs (he also recently performed it at his own isolated session<\/a>). Lowe produced Costello\u2019s first five records, with a style that Costello noted \u201cwas to exhibit massive enthusiasm for the moment,\u201d he told Rolling Stone<\/em><\/a> in 2018, \u201cand seem possessed with the conviction that whatever we had just played was absolutely \u2018IT.\u201d<\/p>\n

For the last song, Lowe shifted positions to his couch, where he dove into \u201cI Read a Lot,\u201d the title track to his 2011 album. \u201cI read a lot, not just magazines\/But other more serious things, to get me through the day,\u201d he sings wistfully. \u201cNighttime too\/Whilst wondering how in the world to go on without you.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lowe\u2019s \u2018In My Room\u2019 session follows Waxahatchee<\/a>, Nathaniel Rateliff<\/a>\u2018s, Steve Earle<\/a>\u2018s Graham Nash<\/a>\u2018s, Yola<\/a>\u2018s, John Fogerty<\/a>\u2018s and more.
