Paul McCartney\u2019s handwritten lyrics for \u201cHey Jude,\u201d used in the studio when the Beatles<\/a> recorded the 1968 classic, sold for $910,000 at auction<\/a> Friday.<\/span><\/p>\n

The lyric sheet<\/a>, which McCartney used during the July 1968 recording session at London\u2019s Trident Studios and then gifted to a studio engineer, had a pre-auction estimate of $160,000. The sale of the \u201cHey Jude\u201d lyrics highlighted Julien\u2019s Auctions\u2019 Beatles-themed lot<\/a> that coincided with the 50th anniversary of the band\u2019s breakup.<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

Other notable items included the drumhead<\/a> from the Beatles\u2019 1964 concert at San Francisco\u2019s Cow Palace ($200,000), John Lennon and Yoko Ono\u2019s Bagism<\/em> drawing<\/a> ($93,750), a shooting script<\/a> for the \u201cHello Goodbye\u201d video featuring handwritten notations by Lennon and George Harrison ($83,000) and Ringo Starr\u2019s Abbey Road ashtray<\/a> ($32,000).<\/span><\/p>\n

Additionally, the original stage from the Beatles\u2019 first public performance<\/a> \u2014 a May 14th, 1960 gig where the band is billed as \u201cthe Silver Beats\u201d \u2014sold for $25,000, exceeding its pre-auction estimate of $10,000-$20,000. The 19\u20198\u2033 x 9\u201910\u2033 spread of wood planks was taken from Liverpool, England\u2019s Lathom Hall, \u201cthe scene of the infamous fight involving original bass player Stu Sutcliffe,\u201d according to the auction house.<\/span><\/p>\n
