Brittany Howard<\/a> shared a cover of Funkadelic\u2019s \u201cYou and Your Folks, Me and My Folks,\u201d as well as a new version of her excellent slow-burner, \u201cStay High,\u201d for the Spotify<\/a> Singles series.<\/p>\n

Recorded at East West Studios in Los Angeles, Howard delivers a timely, refreshing update on the funk band\u2019s 1971 song about people helping each other in need: \u201cBut if in our fears, we don\u2019t learn to trust each other,\u201d Howard belts in her signature voice, \u201cAnd if in our tears, we don\u2019t learn to share with your brother\/ You know that hate is gonna keep on multiplying\/ And you know that man is gonna keep right on dying.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cStay High\u201d appears on Howard\u2019s solo debut, Jaime<\/em><\/a>, released last year. The new take is more subtle than the album version, as she sings, \u201cI just want to stay high with you\u201d over sparkling guitar chords.<\/p>\n

Howard released Jaime<\/em> after Alabama Shakes<\/a>\u2019 2015 album, Sound and Color.<\/i><\/a> Her 2020 spring tour<\/a> was rescheduled to the fall<\/a> due to the coronavirus pandemic. All tickets will be honored at the new dates.<\/p>\n

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone<\/em>, Howard discussed her obsession with bathtubs<\/a> \u2014 and revealed her secret Twitter handle, @candlegazing<\/a>, to rate them. \u201cIt\u2019s the place at the end of the day where I am all alone and grounded in comfort,\u201d she said. \u201cI like to picture all the stress going down the drain.\u201d<\/p>\n
