Selena Gomez<\/a> is suing the makers of the mobile game \u201cClothes Forever \u2014 Styling Game\u201d for up to $10 million, claiming in a new lawsuit that they stole her image and likeness.<\/p>\n

\u201cClothes Forever,\u201d which is available on the Apple App Store<\/a>, allows players to work as a virtual stylist, and its description touts the opportunity to \u201cinteract with the most beautiful models and celebrities; the likes of Kardashian, Gigi, Beyonce, Taylor, and more will be dropping by and asking for YOUR fashion advise!\u201d<\/p>\n

The lawsuit states that the game features an image that \u201cblatantly rips off a popular image of Gomez\u201d that appeared on the cover of <\/span>Flare<\/i>, and that the use of the singer\u2019s likeness \u201ccreates the false impression that she has endorsed the Game or has something to do with the Game, and undoubtedly is intended to attract consumers to make use of the Game.\u201d Gomez is seeking damages of up to $10 million, with an actual amount to be determined at trial.<\/p>\n

\u201cSelena Gomez is a style icon,\u201d Alex Weingarten, an attorney for Gomez, said in a statement to Rolling Stone<\/em>. \u201cThis is an egregious violation of Selena\u2019s rights, which we will litigate vigorously to vindicate.\u201d<\/p>\n

The lawsuit names multiple defendants allegedly responsible for the game, including Forgame Holdings and MutantBox Interactive Limited; neither company immediately returned Rolling Stone<\/i>\u2018s request for comment. Attempts to reach other defendants, several of which were based in China, were unsuccessful.<\/p>\n

Gomez\u2019s suit describes \u201cClothes Forever\u201d as a \u201cbug-riddled mobile game\u201d that is \u201ccurrently rated a measly 3.5 stars out of 5 by users on the Apple App Store website.\u201d It also highlights the game\u2019s reliance on \u201cthe unsavory practice of luring its users to make in-game purchases in amounts as much as $99.99 to fund imaginary spending in the Game and unlock features.\u201d Along with Gomez, the suit claims \u201cClothes Forever\u201d uses the images and likenesses of Rihanna, Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid, Taylor Swift and Kim Kardashian.<\/p>\n

The suit claims the makers of the game \u201cneither sought nor secured permission from Gomez to use her image or likeness,\u201d and that they \u201cconspired with each other to wrongfully use Gomez\u2019s publicity rights without authorization for their own commercial purposes in order to gain at her expense.\u201d It also claims that Gomez has invested time and resources into possible entries into the \u201cmobile game space with respect to fashion in particular,\u201d and that the use of her likeness in \u201cClothes Forever\u201d has negatively affected her ability to move forward with such a project.<\/p>\n
