Eddie Vedder<\/a>, accompanied only by an organ, performed a solo version of Pearl Jam<\/a>\u2019s \u201cRiver Cross\u201d during Global Citizen\u2019s One World: Together at Home special<\/a>, which raised over $127 million for COVID-19 relief.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAll this talk of rapture \/ Look around at the promise now \/ Here and now,\u201d Vedder sings on the track. \u201cCan\u2019t hold me down \/ Won\u2019t hold us down.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

While \u201cRiver Cross\u201d closes out Pearl Jam\u2019s recently released new album Gigaton<\/em><\/a>, Vedder \u2013 a longtime supporter of Global Citizen<\/a> \u2013 has played the track a handful of times while performing solo, including the song\u2019s debut at the Vedder-curated Ohana Festival in September 2017.<\/span><\/p>\n

Pearl Jam\u2019s monthlong North American tour in support of Gigaton was postponed<\/a> in March due to the coronavirus pandemic; the band at the time was stationed in their native Seattle, site of the first coronavirus outbreak in the U.S.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve worked hard with all our management and business associates to find other solutions or options but the levels of risk to our audience and their communities is simply too high for our comfort level,\u201d they wrote in a statement.<\/a> \u201cAdd to that we also have a unique group of passionate fans who travel far and wide. We\u2019ve always been humbled by this and respect their energies and devotion. However in this case, travel is something to avoid.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Pearl Jam continued, \u201cIt certainly hasn\u2019t helped that there\u2019s been no clear messages from our government regarding people\u2019s safety and our ability to go to work. Having no examples of our national health department\u2019s ability to get ahead of this, we have no reason to believe that it will be under control in the coming weeks ahead\u2026 Again, here in Seattle what we are witnessing we would not wish for anyone.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The Together at Home special \u2014 hosted by late-night TV\u2019s Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Kimmel and Jimmy Fallon \u2014 also featured Paul McCartney (who performed the Beatles\u2019 \u201cLady Madonna\u201d<\/a>), Kacey Musgraves<\/a>, the Rolling Stones (\u201cYou Can\u2019t Always Get You Want<\/a>\u201c), Taylor Swift (\u201cSoon You\u2019ll Get Better<\/a>\u201c), Kacey Musgraves (\u201cRainbow<\/a>\u201c), Lizzo (\u201cA Change Is Gonna Come\u201d), Billie Eilish, Lady Gaga, Alicia Keys, Stevie Wonder, Celine Dion, Usher, Chris Martin, J Balvin, John Legend, Camila Cabello, Shawn Mendes, Pharrell Williams, Sam Smith, Billie Joe Armstrong, LL Cool J and many more.<\/span><\/p>\n
