{"id":806663,"date":"2020-04-22T10:03:45","date_gmt":"2020-04-22T16:03:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/?p=988041"},"modified":"2020-04-22T10:03:45","modified_gmt":"2020-04-22T16:03:45","slug":"see-john-legend-common-st-vincent-cover-prince-at-grammy-tribute","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/ksmt\/music-news\/see-john-legend-common-st-vincent-cover-prince-at-grammy-tribute\/","title":{"rendered":"See John Legend, Common, St. Vincent Cover Prince at Grammy Tribute"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Prince-tribute-grammy.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Three months after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/prince-grammy-salute-show-recap-944767\/\">the all-star special<\/a> was taped during Grammy weekend, <em>Let\u2019s Go Crazy: The Grammy Tribute To <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/prince\/\" id=\"auto-tag_prince\" data-tag=\"prince\">Prince<\/a><\/em> aired Tuesday to mark the fourth anniversary of Prince\u2019s death.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">In addition to the participation of Prince collaborators like the Revolution, Sheila E. and Morris Day &amp; The Time, the special also featured performances by Foo Fighters, Beck, Usher (with FKA Twigs), Miguel and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/john-legend\/\" id=\"auto-tag_john-legend\" data-tag=\"john-legend\">John Legend<\/a>, who delivered a piano rendition of the Prince-penned Sinead O\u2019Connor hit \u201cNothing Compares 2 U.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Sheila E. and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/common\/\" id=\"auto-tag_common\" data-tag=\"common\">Common<\/a> also teamed for a take on Prince\u2019s \u201cSign O\u2019 the Times\u201d:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" type=\"text\/html\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/pdTi9egOGCE?version=3&amp;enablejsapi=1&amp;origin=https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com&amp;rel=1&amp;fs=1&amp;autohide=2&amp;showsearch=0&amp;showinfo=1&amp;iv_load_policy=1&amp;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\">[embedded content]<\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Gary Clark Jr., who ranked Prince among his favorite guitarists, appeared throughout the evening, first showcasing his guitar skills alongside H.E.R. (\u201cLet\u2019s Go Crazy\u201d) before digging out the <em>Sign O\u2019 the Times<\/em> Side D cut \u201cThe Cross\u201d on his own.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Maya Rudolph hosted the event and, with her Prince cover band Princess, sang \u201cDelirious\u201d alongside the Revolution. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/st-vincent\/\" id=\"auto-tag_st-vincent\" data-tag=\"st-vincent\">St. Vincent<\/a> handled \u201cControversy,\u201d noting before her performance, \u201cPrince\u2019s music means so much to all of us.\u201d:<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Coldplay\u2019s Chris Martin and the Bangles\u2019 Susanna Hoffs partnered for a stripped-down duet of the latter band\u2019s Prince-written smash \u201cManic Monday\u201d:<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Mavis Staples (who sang \u201cPurple Rain\u201d with the Revolution), Juanes, Earth, Wind and Fire and more also performed during the <em>Let\u2019s Go Crazy: The Grammy Tribute To Prince special<\/em>, which concluded with many of the artists involved congregating onstage for a star-studded rendition of \u201cBaby I\u2019m a Star.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">As <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/prince-grammy-salute-show-recap-944767\/\"><em>Rolling Stone<\/em> noted of the special\u2019s taping<\/a> in late January, \u201cThe tribute was as much a TV show taping as it was a concert, causing the inevitable fits and starts as artists gamely tried to keep the momentum going to varying degrees of success. But as a fitting tribute to one of music\u2019s most iconic artists, the show celebrated Prince and let some of his closest collaborators have another chance to remember him.
