{"id":806674,"date":"2020-04-22T11:45:15","date_gmt":"2020-04-22T17:45:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/?p=988276"},"modified":"2020-04-22T11:45:15","modified_gmt":"2020-04-22T17:45:15","slug":"hear-mark-lanegans-somber-heroin-rumination-stockholm-city-blues","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/ksmt\/music-news\/hear-mark-lanegans-somber-heroin-rumination-stockholm-city-blues\/","title":{"rendered":"Hear Mark Lanegan\u2019s Somber Heroin Rumination \u2018Stockholm City Blues\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/MarkLanegan.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/mark-lanegan\/\" id=\"auto-tag_mark-lanegan\" data-tag=\"mark-lanegan\">Mark Lanegan<\/a> composed his upcoming album, <em>Straight Songs of Sorrow<\/em>, as a companion piece to his gritty memoir, <em>Sing Backwards and Weep<\/em>, which chronicles his drug use and time in Screaming Trees in the Eighties and Nineties.<\/p>\n<p>Wednesday, he dropped \u201cStockholm City Blues,\u201d which finds him looking back regretfully on a visit to Sweden\u2019s capital, feeling junk sick late at night. \u201cI pay for this pain I\u2019m running through my blood,\u201d he sings somberly over loosely plucked acoustic guitar and cinematic strings. \u201cYou couldn\u2019t ever tell me when enough\u2019s enough.\u201d The album is due out May 8th, a week after the April 28th release of the book.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWriting the book, I didn\u2019t get catharsis,\u201d Lanegan said in a statement. \u201cAll I got was a Pandora\u2019s box full of pain and misery. I went way in and remembered shit I\u2019d put away 20 years ago. But I started writing these songs the minute I was done, and I realized there was a depth of emotion because they were all linked to memories from this book. It was a relief to suddenly go back to music. Then I realized that was the gift of the book: these songs. I\u2019m really proud of this record.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lanegan previously released the songs <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/mark-lanegan-new-song-bleed-all-over-straight-songs-of-sorrow-971525\/\">\u201cBleed All Over\u201d<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/mark-lanegan-memoir-new-album-skeleton-key-955088\/\">\u201cSkeleton Key\u201d<\/a> from the album.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the book and album, Lanegan has also created an online portal called <a href=\"https:\/\/vault.marklanegan.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">The Vault<\/a> that compiles all of his recordings going back to 1984.
