{"id":806750,"date":"2020-04-24T07:16:27","date_gmt":"2020-04-24T13:16:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/?p=989411"},"modified":"2020-04-24T07:16:27","modified_gmt":"2020-04-24T13:16:27","slug":"dion-enlists-bruce-springsteen-paul-simon-jeff-beck-for-new-blues-lp","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/ksmt\/music-news\/dion-enlists-bruce-springsteen-paul-simon-jeff-beck-for-new-blues-lp\/","title":{"rendered":"Dion Enlists Bruce Springsteen, Paul Simon, Jeff Beck for New Blues LP"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Dion-DiMucci.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Rock and Roll Hall of Fame-inducted singer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/dion\/\" id=\"auto-tag_dion\" data-tag=\"dion\">Dion<\/a> enlists friends like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/bruce-springsteen\/\" id=\"auto-tag_bruce-springsteen\" data-tag=\"bruce-springsteen\">Bruce Springsteen<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/paul-simon\/\" id=\"auto-tag_paul-simon\" data-tag=\"paul-simon\">Paul Simon<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/jeff-beck\/\" id=\"auto-tag_jeff-beck\" data-tag=\"jeff-beck\">Jeff Beck<\/a>, Billy Gibbons and Van Morrison for his upcoming album <em>Blues With Friends<\/em>, a collection of blues songs performed by \u201cThe Wanderer\u201d singer and his all-star guest list.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">E Street Band\u2019s Patti Scialfa and Steven Van Zandt, Brian Setzer, Jimmy Vivino and more also appear across <em>Blues With Friends<\/em>\u2019 14 tracks. The album is due out June 5th via the newly launched Keeping the Blues Alive Records, a label co-founded by guitarist &nbsp;Joe Bonamassa, who appears on first single \u201cBlues Comin\u2019 On.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cI wanted an album of songs that were strong and memorable and told stories that were worth telling,\u201d Dion said in a statement. \u201cThe blues have been at the heart of my music since the early Sixties. \u2018The Wanderer\u2019 is a 12-bar blues and I was covering Willie Dixon and Jimmy Reed in my early years at Columbia \u2014 much to the dismay of my corporate masters.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><em>Blues With Friends<\/em> also boasts liner notes penned by Bob Dylan. \u201cDion knows how to sing, and he knows just the right way to craft these songs, these blues songs. He\u2019s got some friends here to help him out, some true luminaries. But in the end, it\u2019s Dion by himself alone, and that masterful voice of his that will keep you returning to share these Blues songs with him,\u201d Dylan writes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" type=\"text\/html\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/RbDNMjJekQ0?version=3&amp;enablejsapi=1&amp;origin=https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com&amp;rel=1&amp;fs=1&amp;autohide=2&amp;showsearch=0&amp;showinfo=1&amp;iv_load_policy=1&amp;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\">[embedded content]<\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Springsteen (on guitar) and Scialfa (lead vocals) appear on Blues With Friends\u2019 \u201cHymn to Him,\u201d a re-recording of a track Dion first released in the Eighties. \u201cI first recorded this song for my 1987 gospel album <i>Velvet &amp; Steel<\/i>. But songs are never finished\u2026 I kept hearing this with Patti\u2019s voice, so I asked her to help me remake the song,\u201d Dion said. \u201cWhen she started singing and layering her vocals down, I got a big surprise. Bruce walked into the studio with his guitar and asked to play a solo. They made it something sublime.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Simon lends his vocals to Dion\u2019s \u201cSong for Sam Cooke (Here in America).\u201d \u201cI wrote this tune back many years ago. At first, I just had the melody and the refrain \u2018Here in America.\u2019 A friend suggested I use an episode from my memoir about walking southern streets with Sam Cooke in 1962,\u201d Dion added. \u201cI finished the song, but it felt too personal, so I put it aside. Then in 2019, I saw the movie <em>Green Book<\/em> and after that, I couldn\u2019t shake the song.&nbsp; My friend Paul Simon wanted to record it what he was hearing on the tune; it\u2019s a story we both share. Thank you, Paul.
