Post Malone<\/a> staged a virtual Nirvana tribute concert<\/a> Friday, a livestreamed YouTube gig that raised over $2.6 million for the United Nations Foundation\u2019s COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhat\u2019s up, party people\u201d Malone said during the gig. \u201cWe\u2019re gonna play some Nirvana<\/a> for you, and have some fun, and hopefully I don\u2019t fuck up.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Malone added, \u201cThank you to the gentlemen who wrote these beautiful songs.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Backed by a socially distanced band that included drummer \u201cSir\u201d Travis Barker<\/a>, Malone delivered a 15-song, 80-minute set of Nirvana tracks, including a near-complete performance of the band\u2019s classic Nevermind<\/em>; that album\u2019s \u201cPolly\u201d and, surprisingly, \u201cSmells Like Teen Spirit\u201d were the only songs not covered by Malone and company.<\/span><\/p>\n

Malone also played three tracks off In Utero<\/em> (his opener \u201cFrances Farmer Will Have Her Revenge on Seattle,\u201d \u201cVery Ape\u201d and \u201cHeart-Shaped Box\u201d) as well as a pair of Bleach<\/em> cuts (\u201cAbout a Girl\u201d and \u201cSchool\u201d).<\/span><\/p>\n

Kurt Cobain\u2019s widow Courtney Love<\/a> and Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic<\/a> were supportive of Malone\u2019s endeavor prior to and during the concert itself, with Novoselic live-tweeting during the livestream.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t think these fellows can play any better. They are on fire!!!!,\u201d the bassist tweeted<\/a>. \u201cHello!!!!!! I love you all!!!! I am holding emotions back the whole show.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Love, who claimed to style Malone in the Cobain-inspired floral-patterned dress for the performance, previously wrote on social media of the gig, \u201cThank you mighty kc for writing these songs with your elegant and monkeyed hands that the kids still want to sing and play and hear and use to fight and hunt and cure and heal and eradicate this fucking covid19 virus. I approve the usage. Good luck mr malone.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
