Business owners, employees and consumers have suffered an unbearable recent loss while we have endured this unnecessary setback.<\/p>\n<p>The shutdown\u2019s original intent was to flatten the curve and limit the number of cases. It was never intended to eliminate the virus.<\/p>\n<p>While we await a vaccine, an indefinite shutdown is not what researchers at several prestigious universities recommend. Their recent research shows this virus is more pervasive and less deadly than the flu, SARS and H1N1.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s why lifting stay-at-home orders is a priority for most governors nationwide. I encourage Gov. Jared Polis and the Summit County commissioners to implement a similar policy as follows:<\/p>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col\" readability=\"6\">\n<div class=\"row sd-donation sd-donation-mobile p-0\" readability=\"7\">\n<div class=\"col-xl-4 p-2\">\n<div data-bg=\"url(https:\/\/cdn.summitdaily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/03\/SDN-logo-white-1.png)\" class=\"p-0 mt-2 mb-2 h-75 text-center rocket-lazyload\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.summitdaily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/03\/SDN-logo-white-1.png\" class=\"logo m-0 p-0 invisible\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><h3 class=\"d-inline mr-3\">Support Local Journalism<\/h3>\n<p><button class=\"btn d-inline\" type=\"button\" onclick=\"handleDonationButtonClickMidArticle()\">Donate<\/button><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Let people use their common sense and good judgment<\/p>\n<p>Give us back our freedom<\/p>\n<p>Follow voluntary social distancing guidelines<\/p>\n<p>Open trails, bike paths, parks, rivers, lakes, cross-country ski areas and golf courses to give us therapeutic outdoor recreation<\/p>\n<p>Open restaurant outdoor seating, rescuing business owners and providing local jobs<\/p>\n<p>Open medical and doctors\u2019 offices, providing health services and local jobs<\/p>\n<p>Open churches and libraries, providing faith-based relief<\/p>\n<p>Open retail shops with voluntary owner distancing policies, rescuing business owners and providing local jobs<\/p>\n<p>Offer widespread antibody testing for local residents<\/p>\n<p>Allow second homeowners to use and rent their properties. They and their renters are the lifeblood of our resort community, and we are killing the golden goose by excluding them.<\/p>\n<p>We can trust our neighbors to do the right thing without suffering under more&nbsp; heavy-handed government regulations. Any continued business closures should be based on what\u2019s safe or unsafe.
