Neil Young<\/a> has just shared his fourth Fireside Sessions<\/em> digital concert<\/a> on the Neil Young Archives.<\/em> Like the previous three editions, it\u2019s an intimate, acoustic set filmed by his wife, actress Daryl Hannah, at their home. It\u2019s packed with rarities and fan favorites.<\/p>\n

The show begins with an outdoor performance of the Harvest Moon<\/em> tune \u201cOne of These Days\u201d near a fire as the sun sets in the background. He moves inside to sit by their fireplace and sing \u201cGood to See You,\u201d a song from Silver and Gold<\/em> he hasn\u2019t touched since the 1999 Bridge School Benefit. That album just celebrated its 20th anniversary.<\/p>\n

Incredibly, he follows it up with \u201cThrough My Sails\u201d from Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young\u2019s aborted 1974 reunion album Human Highway<\/em>. He released it on Zuma<\/em> in 1975, but this is the first time he\u2019s played it live in any capacity. Up until this, it was the only Zuma<\/em> song never to be done live, although \u201cPardon My Heart\u201d was played a mere two times in 1974.<\/p>\n

Young returns to Silver and Gold<\/em> after \u201cThrough My Sails\u201d by breaking out the first \u201cDaddy Went Walking\u201d performance since 2009 before moving over to the piano for stunning renditions of \u201cAfter the Gold Rush\u201d and \u201cMother Earth.\u201d He wraps it up by going outside for \u201cDistant Camera\u201d (the third and final Silver and Gold<\/em> song from the show) and then back in at the piano for \u201cAre You Ready for the Country,\u201d which is punctuated by shots of his two dogs frolicking in a pond.<\/p>\n

The COVID-19 pandemic prevented Young from carrying out a planned tour with Crazy Horse this year, but he\u2019s made it up to fans with these Fireside Session<\/em> sessions shows. He\u2019s also plotted out an ambitious slate of archival releases, including the long-awaited Homegrown<\/em>, a Greendale<\/em> live album and film, a 1990 Crazy Horse club show and a late Eighties rarities set he\u2019s calling Road of Plenty<\/em>.<\/a><\/p>\n

Nobody knows when live concerts will resume, but Young is not optimistic it will happen any time soon. \u201cIt could be two years, maybe more, until the next live show,\u201d he wrote to a fan earlier this week on the NYA. \u201cThat is a sobering thought.\u201d<\/p>\n
