{"id":807248,"date":"2020-05-08T09:43:50","date_gmt":"2020-05-08T15:43:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/?p=996159"},"modified":"2020-05-08T09:43:50","modified_gmt":"2020-05-08T15:43:50","slug":"watch-bill-wyman-break-down-his-upcoming-rolling-stones-artifact-auction","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/ksmt\/music-news\/watch-bill-wyman-break-down-his-upcoming-rolling-stones-artifact-auction\/","title":{"rendered":"Watch Bill Wyman Break Down His Upcoming Rolling Stones Artifact Auction"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/3629085acC.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/bill-wyman\/\" id=\"auto-tag_bill-wyman\" data-tag=\"bill-wyman\">Bill Wyman<\/a> began collecting <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/rolling-stones\/\" id=\"auto-tag_rolling-stones\" data-tag=\"rolling-stones\">Rolling Stones<\/a> artifacts almost immediately after he joined the band in September 1962.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wanted to keep a few things so [my newborn son] would know I was once in a band,\u201d the bassist says, \u201cand we made a record and were on TV once or were played on the radio twice, since that is all we thought it would be in those days.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Stones, of course, lasted for significantly longer than Wyman or anyone else could have possibly imagined. And when he quit in 1993, his archive was overflowing with posters, stage outfits, bass guitars, amplifiers and other amazing artifacts from his 31-year tenure in the band.<\/p>\n<p>He\u2019s auctioning a lot of it off on September 12th and 13th at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.juliensauctions.com\/about-auction?id=322\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Julien\u2019s Auctions in Beverly Hills, California.<\/a> \u201cThis sale features nearly all of the important instruments, equipment and wardrobe in Wyman\u2019s archive,\u201d said Martin Nolan, Executive Director of Julien\u2019s Auctions, \u201coffering fans a singular opportunity to own these historic pieces.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In this video, Wyman discusses some of the most amazing artifacts in the auction, including the famous 1962 VOX AC30 amplifier that he showed off to Mick Jagger and Keith Richards when they first met, securing his role in the group. \u201cWe used to worship it,\u201d Richards once said. \u201cWe used to look at it and get on our knees. To have an amplifier was crucial.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/OT1J2OqcXoc?version=3&amp;enablejsapi=1&amp;origin=https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com&amp;rel=1&amp;fs=1&amp;autohide=2&amp;showsearch=0&amp;showinfo=1&amp;iv_load_policy=1&amp;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\">[embedded content]<\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Wyman hasn\u2019t toured with the Stones since the conclusion of the <em>Steel Wheels<\/em> tour in 1990. The only time he\u2019s even guested with them since took place over two nights at London\u2019s 02 Arena in November 2012. Much to his disappointment, they only let him come out for two songs each night: \u201cIt\u2019s Only Rock \u2018n Roll (but I Like It)\u201d and \u201cHonky Tonk Women.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think maybe they were punishing me for leaving,\u201d he told the <em>BBC<\/em> in 2013. \u201cI thought I\u2019d be playing a lot more. They said, \u2018We only want two numbers.\u2019 They wouldn\u2019t even tell me what songs they were to the last minute. I said, \u2018I haven\u2019t done a soundcheck or anything.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The band gave him the chance to join them on the American tour the following month, but he declined. \u201cI said, \u2018Two songs? No thanks,&#8217;\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s very difficult to go back and re-live something. School reunions. Old girlfriends. It really doesn\u2019t work. That worked briefly.
