Our \u201cIn My Room<\/a>\u201d IGTV video series has had Brian Wilson<\/a>, Lucinda Williams<\/a>, Nick Lowe,<\/a> and many others performing from their homes. The latest to participate: Johnny Rzeznik of the Goo Goo Dolls<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Before COVID-19 hit, the Goo Goo Dolls were on tour in the U.K., playing music off 2019\u2019s Miracle Pill<\/em>, their 12th album. Rzeznik has said<\/a> he wrote it about \u201cliving in a state of this chronic, low-grade anxiety. And I think it\u2019s really starting to wear people down.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI hope you\u2019re all good feeling good, we\u2019re all gonna get this together, stay safe,\u201d Rzeznik said from his home in New Jersey. Then he launched into a series of new songs: \u201cFearless,\u201d which the band recently released as a lyric video<\/a>, and \u201cMiracle Pill,\u201d about how love can heal even during the darkest times.<\/p>\n

Rzeznik wrapped with 2006\u2019s \u201cBetter Days,\u201d which has lyrics that could be about our current moment: \u201cI wish everyone was loved tonight, and somehow stop this endless fight,\u201d Rzeznik sings. \u201cJust a chance that maybe we\u2019ll find better days.\u201d<\/p>\n

In 2018, the band celebrated the 20th anniversary of 1998\u2019s Dizzy Up the Girl<\/em> with a huge tour. The album was certified four times platinum and included the Number One hit \u201cIris.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI got done doing the Dizzy Up the Girl<\/em> 20th anniversary tour. By the end, that tour really informed me a lot about where I need to be as a writer, as an artist and as a performer. Because every night it took me back to that time,\u201d Rzeznik told Forbes<\/a>. \u201cIt >kind of emboldened me to get off that tour, get right to work and get a new album out.\u201d<\/p>\n
