Sutor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.summitdaily.com\/news\/tamara-pogue-announces-run-for-summit-board-of-county-commissioners\/\">was up against Democrat Tamara Pogue<\/a>, CEO of Peak Health Alliance and former executive director of the Family &amp; Intercultural Resource Center.<\/p>\n<p>Now that Sutor has withdrawn her campaign, all county commissioner races will be uncontested in the June 30 primary.<\/p>\n<p>Sutor said she would not have the time to dedicate to the campaign because her role as communications director has become more involved since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col\" readability=\"6\">\n<div class=\"row sd-donation sd-donation-mobile p-0\" readability=\"7\">\n<div class=\"col-xl-4 p-2\">\n<div data-bg=\"url(https:\/\/cdn.summitdaily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/03\/SDN-logo-white-1.png)\" class=\"p-0 mt-2 mb-2 h-75 text-center rocket-lazyload\">\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.summitdaily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/03\/SDN-logo-white-1.png\" class=\"logo m-0 p-0 invisible\"><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><h3 class=\"d-inline mr-3\">Support Local Journalism<\/h3>\n<p><button class=\"btn d-inline\" type=\"button\" onclick=\"handleDonationButtonClickMidArticle()\">Donate<\/button><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cIt was a really tough decision,\u201d she said. \u201cWith everything we have going on right now in terms of our COVD-19 response, I just couldn\u2019t devote enough time and energy to a campaign for it to be successful.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Pogue thanked Sutor for the work she put into her campaign.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRunning for office takes courage and hard work, so I hope everyone will join me in thanking Julie for stepping up \u2014 especially during this challenging time,\u201d Pogue wrote in an email.<\/p>\n<p>Sutor\u2019s goals were to improve livability for the county\u2019s workforce by developing affordable housing, building new child care facilities and expanding access to health care. She also planned to take action to fight climate change and protect the natural environment.<\/p>\n<p>Sutor said she plans to continue fighting for those efforts in her role with the county.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think that the county has some robust goals in place around each of those areas,\u201d she said. \u201cIn particular, the climate action plan is a roadmap forward for the county. One thing that is important to keep in mind is that climate change is still happening amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. It\u2019s important for us to keep our eyes on that ball.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sutor said she\u2019s keeping the \u201cdoor open\u201d for a future in public service. For right now, she is focused on informing the community about COVID-19.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis work is essential for the response effort as well as stabilization and recovery,\u201d she said. \u201cI wanted to be able to devote myself fully to helping the community and supporting the community in that way. So I plan to continue to do that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Pogue said she is also focusing on supporting the county as it moves through the COVID-19 crisis.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe economic toll on our community is unfathomable, quite frankly,\u201d she said. \u201cWe need to balance protecting the health of our community with mitigating the economic devastation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Patti McLaughlin, Summit County Democratic party chair, said the organization is working to find ways to campaign while physical interaction is limited because of the novel coronavirus. The group plans to hold virtual forums and direct voters to candidates\u2019 social media.<\/p>\n<p>McLaughlin said there will be three locations in the county for people to vote in person for the primary election.
