Goosebumps, electricity and joy came from every pore.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">In 1966, John \u2014 then Reginald Dwight, the organist in the band Bluesology \u2014 opened for Little Richard during the rock pioneer\u2019s London concert. \u201cWhen I saw Little Richard standing on top of the piano, all lights, sequins and energy, I decided there and then then that I was going to be a rock \u2018n\u2019 roll piano player,\u201d John said in the biography <em>His Song: The Musical Journey of Elton John.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">John continued Saturday, \u201cHis records still sound fresh and the opening few seconds of \u2018Tutti Frutti\u2019 are the most explosive in music history. I was lucky enough to work with him for my \u2018Duets\u2019 album in 1993. He was shy and funny and I was SO nervous.<\/span> <span class=\"s1\">The track we recorded \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=nWb_8Tmf3w8\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">The Power<\/a>\u201d is a favorite in my catalogue. We also played live at the Beverly Hilton and I felt like I\u2019d died and gone to heaven. He influenced so many and is irreplaceable. A true legend, icon and a force of nature.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/elton-john-the-rolling-stone-interview-76059\/\">a 1973 <em>Rolling Stone<\/em> interview<\/a>, John said of Little Richard\u2019s influence on his music, \u201cI\u2019m more a Little Richard stylist than a Jerry Lee Lewis, I think. Jerry Lee is a very intricate piano player and very skillful, whereas I think Little Richard is more of a pounder.
