{"id":807279,"date":"2020-05-09T15:06:45","date_gmt":"2020-05-09T21:06:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/?p=996935"},"modified":"2020-05-09T15:06:45","modified_gmt":"2020-05-09T21:06:45","slug":"bob-dylan-remembers-little-richard-my-shining-star-and-guiding-light","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/ksmt\/music-news\/bob-dylan-remembers-little-richard-my-shining-star-and-guiding-light\/","title":{"rendered":"Bob Dylan Remembers Little Richard: \u2018My Shining Star and Guiding Light\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/GettyImages-89022951.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/bob-dylan\/\" id=\"auto-tag_bob-dylan\" data-tag=\"bob-dylan\">Bob Dylan<\/a>, who dreamed of joining <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/little-richard\/\" id=\"auto-tag_little-richard\" data-tag=\"little-richard\">Little Richard<\/a>\u2019s band as a young musician in Minnesota, penned a short tribute to the rock pioneer following <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/little-richard-dead-48505\/\">his death<\/a> Saturday at the age of 87.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cI just heard the news about Little Richard and I\u2019m so grieved,\u201d Dylan wrote. \u201cHe was my shining star and guiding light back when I was only a little boy. His was the original spirit that moved me to do everything I would do.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Dylan continued, \u201cI played some shows with him in Europe in the early nineties and got to hang out in his dressing room a lot. He was always generous, kind and humble. And still dynamite as a performer and a musician and you could still learn plenty from him. In his presence he was always the same Little Richard that I first heard and was awed by growing up and I always was the same little boy. Of course he\u2019ll live forever. But it\u2019s like a part of your life is gone.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">In Dylan\u2019s high school yearbook in 1959, then-senior Robert Zimmerman famously wrote that his life ambition was \u201cto join Little Richard.\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.startribune.com\/how-little-richard-influenced-minnesota-s-biggest-rock-acts\/570339721\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">As the Star Tribune reported<\/a>, Dylan even attempted to emulate Little Richard\u2019s imitable performing style during his first-ever public performance at a Hibbing High School talent show<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span> in 1957.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Following the death of the King of Rock &amp; Roll, many of the artists who Little Richard inspired \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/mick-jagger-little-richard-tribute-996757\/\">including the Rolling Stones<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/elton-john-little-richard-tribute-996803\/\">Elton John<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-features\/john-fogerty-little-richard-996838\/\">John Fogerty<\/a> and more \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/little-richard-questlove-brian-wilson-jimmy-page-tribute-996713\/\">paid tribute to the music icon<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/LGPr0NXknsk?version=3&amp;enablejsapi=1&amp;origin=https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com&amp;rel=1&amp;fs=1&amp;autohide=2&amp;showsearch=0&amp;showinfo=1&amp;iv_load_policy=1&amp;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\">[embedded content]<\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"9.5582329317269\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\" xml:lang=\"en\">I just heard the news about Little Richard and I\u2019m so grieved.
