Betty Wright<\/a>, the R&B and soul singer behind the hits \u201cClean Up Woman,\u201d \u201cTonight Is the Night\u201d and \u201cGirls Can\u2019t Do What the Guys Do,\u201d has died at the age of 66.<\/span><\/p>\n

Wright\u2019s family confirmed to Essence<\/em><\/a> that the singer died Sunday, with Billboard<\/em> adding<\/a> that Wright died from cancer in her native Miami. On May 2nd, Chaka Khan tweeted that Wright was \u201cin need of all your [prayers].\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

After growing up in a gospel-singing family, Wright released her first solo album \u2014 1967\u2019s My First Time Around<\/em> \u2014 when she was just 14 years old, and scored her first hit at the age of 15 with \u201cGirls Can\u2019t Do What the Guys Do.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Throughout the Seventies and Eighties, Wright released a series of hit singles including 1971\u2019s \u201cClean Up Woman,\u201d her most enduring song, \u201cTonight Is the Night,\u201d \u201cDance With Me\u201d and 1988\u2019s \u201cNo Pain, No Gain.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
