{"id":807345,"date":"2020-05-12T08:13:26","date_gmt":"2020-05-12T14:13:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/?p=997775"},"modified":"2020-05-12T08:13:26","modified_gmt":"2020-05-12T14:13:26","slug":"jayhawks-return-with-piano-pop-gem-this-forgotten-town","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/ksmt\/music-news\/jayhawks-return-with-piano-pop-gem-this-forgotten-town\/","title":{"rendered":"Jayhawks Return With Piano-Pop Gem \u2018This Forgotten Town\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/thejayhawks_promo_009_CreditVivianJohnson.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p><span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/the-jayhawks\/\" id=\"auto-tag_the-jayhawks\" data-tag=\"the-jayhawks\">The Jayhawks<\/a> are out Tuesday with \u201cThis Forgotten Town,\u201d the second track off the band\u2019s forthcoming album<\/span> <em><span>XOXO.<\/span><\/em> <span>They previously dropped the Elliott Smith-esque tune \u201cLiving in a Bubble.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The mid-tempo jangly roots-pop gem opens the band\u2019s first album of new material since 2016\u2019s<\/span> <em><span>Paging Mr. Proust.<\/span><\/em> <span>The song features vocals from lead singer Gary Louris and drummer Tim O\u2019Reagan<\/span><strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/uwIvPPMyD_I?version=3&amp;enablejsapi=1&amp;origin=https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com&amp;rel=1&amp;fs=1&amp;autohide=2&amp;showsearch=0&amp;showinfo=1&amp;iv_load_policy=1&amp;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\">[embedded content]<\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cIntroducing<\/span> <span>different voices throughout the song added a new dimension to telling the story,\u201d says the band\u2019s bassist Marc Pearlman, who co-wrote the song with Louris. \u201cWe approached it much like we did the whole record \u2014 more collaboration in the writing and more sharing of lead vocals than in the past.\u201d&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201c<\/span><span>Marc brought the chord progression for this song, and then I started<\/span> <span>singing a melody on top of it,\u201d Louris adds. \u201cWe wrote the lyrics together.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The band\u2019s 11th studio album marks the first time the group has fully distributed its songwriting duties, with all four band members (Louris, Pearlman, O\u2019Reagan and Karen Grotberg) writing their own songs and singing lead vocals.
