Over the weekend, Robbie Robertson<\/a> shared a tribute to Little Richard<\/a> that captured the rock & roll legend\u2019s vast and unparalleled influence.<\/p>\n

For Robertson, that power was apparent from the moment he first laid eyes on the musician: \u201cWhen I was 13 yrs. old I saw Richard in the movie Don\u2019t Knock the Rock<\/em> sing \u2018Long Tall Sally\u2019 and I said, that\u2019s it, it can\u2019t get better than that and it never did.\u201d<\/p>\n

Robertson also shared various memories of Little Richard<\/a> and his music. He noted that the Band often played \u201cSlippin and a Sliding\u201d as an encore \u201cto celebrate his contribution to our music,\u201d and he also recalled bringing Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Fats Domino and Jerry Lee Lewis together for a gathering in New Orleans.<\/p>\n

\u201cSeeing these forefathers together sent chills down the spine,\u201d Robertson wrote. \u201cThey loved<\/em> seeing each other and being together. They told amazing stories of the early days and how competitive they were but how in awe they were of each other\u2019s extraordinary talent.\u201d<\/p>\n

The last anecdote Robertson shared involved a hang with Paul McCartney last year when the former Beatle found himself at a piano and began playing Little Richard\u2019s \u201cMiss Ann.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou could hear in his voice the same inflection as Richard and we already knew the Beatles were very influenced by Richard,\u201d Robertson said. \u201cI told Paul I used to sing \u2018Miss Ann\u2019 in my first band Robbie and the Robots. He laughed and said, me too\u2026 it wasn\u2019t a well-known track but that\u2019s what we loved about it.\u201d<\/p>\n

In closing, Robertson wrote, \u201cWhen we all first heard Little Richard\u2019s voice and saw him perform it was life-changing. We send our true love and appreciation to a founding father and originator of this musical art form.\u201d<\/p>\n

Little Richard died May 9th<\/a> at the age of 87 from bone cancer. Brenda Lee<\/a>, Pat Boone<\/a>, Steven Van Zandt<\/a>, John Waters<\/a> and Lenny Kravitz also shared remembrances of the icon.<\/p>\n
