Although the record marks Pop Smoke\u2019s debut album it follows his two breakout mixtapes, 2019\u2019s <em>Meet the Woo<\/em> and 2020\u2019s <em>Meet the Woo 2,<\/em> which was released in February, just weeks before his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/pop-smoke-dead-954833\/\">death at the age of 20<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"instagram-media\" data-instgrm-captioned data-instgrm-permalink=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CALJi54nA9s\/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;utm_campaign=loading\" data-instgrm-version=\"12\" readability=\"-11.388888888889\"><\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\">Earlier this month, Pop Smoke\u2019s family and his manager, Steven Victor, shared a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/B_2d9nTjC9B\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">statement<\/a> promising an array of posthumous projects to come. \u201cThroughout the next year we will be sharing new music, as we continue to work to build Pop\u2019s legacy,\u201d the statement read. \u201cIn conjunction with his estate, we will be making formal announcements on his foundation and music projects.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Pop Smoke was shot and killed during a home invasion in Los Angeles back in February. In just two years, the rapper had emerged as a rising star following his breakout 2018 track, \u201cWelcome to the Party,\u201d which became a streaming hit and earned an official remix from Nicki Minaj. When <em>Meet the Woo 2<\/em> arrived in February, it <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/rs-charts-green-day-roddy-ricch-954555\/\">debuted at Number Eight<\/a> on the <em>Rolling Stone<\/em> Top 200 Albums chart.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">In an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/the-first-time-pop-smoke-950527\/\">interview with <em>Rolling Stone<\/em><\/a>, Pop Smoke discussed his unique writing style, saying, \u201cI never wrote [down] anything. It\u2019s all up my head. Everything that I be writing, everything that I be saying, when it comes to these types of songs, just be so natural. Just how I be feeling. However, some songs I do write, and you\u2019ll know the ones that I write, \u2019cause you\u2019ll feel it.\u2026 I used to write poetry and all that crazy shit.
