Katy Perry<\/a>\u2019s new album will be released on August 14th via Capitol Records \u2014 according to an announcement made by Amazon\u2019s Alexa Thursday.<\/p>\n

A clip confirming the album\u2019s release date was posted on Perry\u2019s fan page on Thursday. \u201cKaty asked me to let you know that her new album will be released on August 14th,\u201d the AI technology said.<\/p>\n

On Friday at midnight, the pop star will drop the album\u2019s lead single, \u201cDaisies,\u201d accompanied by a performance and Q&A with Amazon Music. \u201cHope it\u2019s ok if I Zoom bomb your party tonight,\u201d Perry wrote on Instagram.<\/a><\/p>\n

The upcoming LP, title currently unknown, marks Perry\u2019s first new record in three years, following 2017\u2019s Witness<\/em><\/a>. Perry dropped several standalone singles last year, including \u201cNever Really Over<\/a>,\u201d \u201cSmall Talk<\/a>\u201d and \u201cHarleys in Hawaii.<\/a>\u201d In March, she dropped \u201cNever Worn White<\/a>,\u201d a ballad that addressed her fears of getting married.<\/p>\n

On Friday, Perry will perform at the In the House<\/em><\/a> livestream, a three-day event hosted by the video-chat app Houseparty. The lineup also includes John Legend, as well as culinary segments by Snoop Dogg, Zooey Deschanel and 2 Chainz.<\/p>\n

Perry kicked off 2020 by winning her appeal<\/a> in the plagiarism dispute over 2013\u2019s \u201cDark Horse,\u201d in which she was sued by rapper Flame for pulling an ostinato from his song \u201cJoyful Noise.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThis an important victory for music creators and the music industry, recognizing that music building blocks cannot be monopolized,\u201d Perry\u2019s lawyer, Christine Lepera, said in a statement. \u201cThe creators of \u2018Dark Horse\u2019 stand vindicated.\u201d<\/p>\n
