Diana Gordon<\/a> released her new EP, Wasted Youth<\/em>, on April 3, but since March she hasn\u2019t been able to tour and perform and connect with her fans the way she\u2019d planned. \u201cPromoting it has been challenging,\u201d she explains about putting out the songs just as the self-quarantine required for our current health crisis started. \u201cThe quarantine has forced me to be resourceful; to use the things that I have. I used to fuss for hours over, \u2018What am I going to do with my hair?\u2019 \u2026 But I\u2019m actually coming to peace with \u2014 my natural hair\u2019s fine, deal with it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Here, she joins us from her living room in Los Angeles to belt out acoustic versions of her songs, including \u201cOnce a Friend,\u201d \u201cWasted Youth,\u201d and the hit song \u201cRollin’\u201d. Brittany Spanos previously praised Gordon\u2019s open vocals on that song, which \u201cricochet between restraint and abandon. The acoustic take on the song emphasizes the underlying rock influences on the track, which in its original form combines the genre with trap and pop.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve been in quarantine for a good two months,\u201d Gordon explains. \u201cAnd I\u2019m trying not to go crazy. It\u2019s not just being indoors. I think there\u2019s this subconscious feeling of what\u2019s next \u2014 a little bit of anxiety and fear about that.\u201d Later, she shares more of her hopes and anxieties for the future. \u201cI have dreams for when this is over. Part of me wants to find a shipping crate and building a tiny house \u2026 and yet there\u2019s a part of me, of my art inside, that I\u2019ve yet to show the world, the best of me. I need to do that. So times I\u2019ve been a little bit down, but I still want to believe in people; I still want to believe we\u2019ll turn things around; I still want to believe we\u2019ll get smart. \u2026 I want to.\u201d<\/p>\n
