{"id":807527,"date":"2020-05-17T11:34:12","date_gmt":"2020-05-17T17:34:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/?p=1001147"},"modified":"2020-05-17T11:34:12","modified_gmt":"2020-05-17T17:34:12","slug":"authorized-buddy-holly-biopic-clear-lake-in-the-works","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/ksmt\/music-news\/authorized-buddy-holly-biopic-clear-lake-in-the-works\/","title":{"rendered":"Authorized Buddy Holly Biopic \u2018Clear Lake\u2019 in the Works"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/GettyImages-112058848.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/buddy-holly\/\" id=\"auto-tag_buddy-holly\" data-tag=\"buddy-holly\">Buddy Holly<\/a> and his efforts to break racial barriers through music will be the subject of an upcoming authorized biopic helmed by the director of <em>Driving Miss Daisy<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><em>Clear Lake<\/em>, developed in association with Holly\u2019s widow Maria Elena Holly and the Holly estate, focuses on Holly\u2019s 1958 Biggest Show of Stars tour, which featured Little Anthony &amp; The Imperials co-founder Clarence Collins, and concludes with the rock legend\u2019s 1959 death in a plane crash outside Clear Lake, Iowa.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The project was <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2018\/film\/news\/buddy-holly-movie-clear-lake-development-1202869074\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">first announced in 2018<\/a> with a planned release in 2019 \u2014 the 60th anniversary of \u201cthe Day the Music Died\u201d \u2014 but after missing that anniversary, the film has added director Bruce Beresford to head <em>Clear Lake<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cI found myself attracted to <em>Clear Lake<\/em> because the script tells the tragic story of Buddy Holly and his era in fascinating detail and with vivid characterizations,\u201d Beresford said in a statement (<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2020\/film\/news\/bruce-beresford-buddy-holly-biopic-clear-lake-1234608228\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">via <em>Variety<\/em><\/a>). \u201cNeedless to say, the added plus of all the wonderful music was also a major lure.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The Crickets singer\u2019s life was previously brought to the big screen in the 1978 biopic <em>The Buddy Holly Story<\/em>, starring Gary Busey in an Oscar-nominated role.
