The Pretenders<\/a>\u2019 Chrissie Hynde<\/a> and James Walbourne recorded an atmospheric version of Bob Dylan<\/a>\u2019s \u201cStanding in the Doorway\u201d for the latest installment of their \u201cDylan Lockdown Series.\u201d<\/p>\n

Like the original version on 1997\u2019s Time Out of Mind<\/em><\/a>, the revamped take stretches out past seven minutes, with Hynde softly singing over airy piano, organ, electric guitar and distant percussion. They paired the song with a video full of vivid shots of farmland, train tracks and raindrops trickling down window panes.<\/p>\n

\u201cThanks one more to Tchad Blake on mixing duties and the whole Blake family for the video,\u201d Hynde wrote on Instagram<\/a> of the release, the third in their series following \u201cIn the Summertime\u201d and \u201cYou\u2019re a Big Girl Now.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Dylan covers precede the Pretenders\u2019 upcoming 11th studio LP, Hate for Sale<\/em><\/a>, out July 17th. The album features the previously issued title-track<\/a>, \u201cYou Can\u2019t Hurt a Fool\u201d<\/a> and \u201cThe Buzz,\u201d<\/a> the latter of which they paired with a surreal video.<\/p>\n

Hynde and Walbourne co-wrote all the songs on Hate for Sale<\/em>, the Pretenders record in over 21 years to feature founding drummer Martin Chambers.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wanted to write with him since day one,\u201d Hynde said in a statement. \u201cJames is especially sought after and has recorded with Jerry Lee Lewis, Dave Gahan and the Rails, to name but a few. We always planned on writing while on the road, but as anyone in a band will tell you, being on tour is a procrastinator\u2019s dream come true.\u201d<\/p>\n
