{"id":807601,"date":"2020-05-19T13:00:30","date_gmt":"2020-05-19T19:00:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/?p=1002332"},"modified":"2020-05-19T13:00:30","modified_gmt":"2020-05-19T19:00:30","slug":"in-my-room-with-taylor-goldsmith-of-dawes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/ksmt\/music-news\/in-my-room-with-taylor-goldsmith-of-dawes\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018In My Room\u2019 With Taylor Goldsmith of Dawes"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Dawes.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p class=\"p1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/dawes\/\" id=\"auto-tag_dawes\" data-tag=\"dawes\">Dawes<\/a>\u2019 Taylor Goldsmith shared a charming set of unplugged tunes, including an extremely apt Willie Nelson cover, in the latest installment of <em>Rolling Stone<\/em><em>\u2018<\/em>s <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/in-my-room\/\" id=\"auto-tag_in-my-room\" data-tag=\"in-my-room\">In My Room<\/a>,<\/em> a series in which artists perform from home while in quarantine.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Goldsmith set up in what he described as his \u201cweird office, guitar, sort-of recording room,\u201d and offered up the disclaimer that it was possible his performance might be disrupted by either his dog barging into the room or his cat jumping onto his lap (alas, neither pet made a cameo). Goldsmith opened his set with a delightful and comforting rendition of Nelson\u2019s 1980 hit, \u201cOn the Road Again,\u201d a track that hits even harder in an era when live music has been put on an indefinite hiatus.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cThanks for indulging me \u2014 that felt really good to sing,\u201d Goldsmith said after the song. \u201cAnd I\u2019m not in a rush, but playing some shows sounds good, whenever that has to be.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">After that, Goldsmith delivered stripped-down takes on two Dawes tracks, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-country\/hear-dawes-dreamy-new-ballad-crack-the-case-627707\/\">\u201cCrack the Case,\u201d<\/a> from the band\u2019s 2018 album, <em>Passwords<\/em>, and \u201cAll Your Favorite Bands\u201d off of the group\u2019s 2015 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-album-reviews\/all-your-favorite-bands-201242\/\">LP of the same name<\/a>. \u201cCrack the Case\u201d remains particularly salient, and in a 2018 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-features\/dawes-on-learning-to-write-political-songs-and-following-up-a-polarizing-lp-666872\/\">interview with <em>Rolling Stone<\/em><\/a>, Goldsmith spoke about how writing it was his way of trying to plumb growing divisions in search of empathy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cWith \u2018Crack the Case,\u2019 I didn\u2019t want to answer anything because I don\u2019t know if a song is enough to do that,\u201d he said. \u201cA song is a song, at the end of the day. But that song is a suggestion of an approach for myself.
