Damon Albarn<\/a> performed his first ever \u201cduet\u201d with his animated outfit Gorillaz<\/a> with a rendition of \u201cAries\u201d on Jimmy Kimmel Live<\/a><\/em> Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Albarn is of, course, always playing with Gorillaz in the sense that he\u2019s the mastermind behind the animated outfit\u2019s music. But the Kimmel<\/em> appearance actually placed him alongside Gorillaz singer 2-D so they could split vocal duties on \u201cAries.\u201d<\/p>\n

Despite not needing to \u2014 for obvious reasons \u2014 Albarn and 2-D delivered their performance over video chat to show they were practicing proper social-distancing protocol. While Albarn played in what looked like a cozy attic studio, 2-D phoned in from Gorillaz\u2019s headquarters, where, in the background, a man in a towel and mask kept accidentally strolling into the frame, doing yoga and dancing, until realizing he was actually on camera.<\/p>\n

Gorillaz released \u201cAries\u201d<\/a> in April as part of their ongoing Song Machine<\/em> series, tapping New Order\u2019s Peter Hook to provide bass on the studio version of the track. Along with \u201cAries,\u201d the Song Machine<\/em> series has included \u201cMomentary Bliss\u201d<\/a> with Slowthai and Slaves, \u201cDeslole\u201d<\/a> with Malian singer Fatoumata Diawara and, most recently, \u201cHow Far?\u201d<\/a> featuring Skepta and late Afrobeat legend Tony Allen (the song was released just days after Allen\u2019s death<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Gorillaz launched Song Machine<\/em> earlier this year with the aim of moving outside the constraints of a typical album cycle and releasing a smattering of songs and videos over the course of the year. Prior to the worldwide quarantine, Albarn said<\/a> that he\u2019d taped six episodes of Song Machine<\/em> and hinted at future collaborations with artists like include Schoolboy Q and Tame Impala.<\/p>\n
