{"id":807662,"date":"2020-05-21T06:47:14","date_gmt":"2020-05-21T12:47:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/?p=1003395"},"modified":"2020-05-21T06:47:14","modified_gmt":"2020-05-21T12:47:14","slug":"check-out-two-songs-from-el-ps-capone-score","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/ksmt\/music-news\/check-out-two-songs-from-el-ps-capone-score\/","title":{"rendered":"Check Out Two Songs From El-P\u2019s \u2018Capone\u2019 Score"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Caponemu-1.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The biopic <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/movies\/movie-reviews\/capone-movie-review-tom-hardy-997303\/\"><em>Capone<\/em><\/a> arrives on video-on-demand Friday and with it comes an original score by Run the Jewels\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/el-p\/\" id=\"auto-tag_el-p\" data-tag=\"el-p\">El-P<\/a>, the producer\u2019s first full-length score since 2004.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Ahead of May 29th release of <em>Capone (Original Motion Picture Score)<\/em> on Milan Records, <em>Rolling Stone<\/em><\/span> <span class=\"s1\">exclusively shares a pair of cuts from the Al Capone biopic, \u201cMama\u2019s Hurt\u201d and the end credits cut \u201cThat Is Al That\u2019s Left.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><em>Capone<\/em> focuses on the last year of the mobster\u2019s life, with the dementia-stricken Capone ensconced in his Florida estate, ravaged by memories of his past.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201c\u2019Mama\u2019s Hurt\u2019 is from one of my favorite scenes in the film. Al wanders through a violent dream of his past and it all comes to a bloody peak. This is one of the most surreal and ultimately sinister-sounding pieces in <em>Capone<\/em>,\u201d El-P told <em>Rolling Stone<\/em> of the track.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cI also wanted to share \u2018This Is Al That\u2019s Left (End Credits)\u2019 because it contains elements from all of the major musical themes we created for the film woven into one more traditional instrumental form. It ends the film so it really had to be a definitive feeling emotionally for what <em>Capone<\/em> was about.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">El-P and <em>Capone<\/em> director Josh Trank previously collaborated when the producer scored the end credits to the filmmaker\u2019s reboot of <em>Fantastic 4<\/em>. El-P\u2019s last complete film score was 2004\u2019s <em>Bomb the System<\/em>, although in recent years he has also contributed to 2016\u2019s <em>Bleed for This<\/em> and 2018\u2019s <em>Roma<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cI grew up on film scores and they\u2019ve always been a huge influence on me and I\u2019ve been hoping to get the time and chance to do another, so I was thrilled to do <em>Capone<\/em>,\u201d El-P said in a statement.<\/span> <span class=\"s1\">\u201cHuge thanks to Josh Trank and Tom Hardy for bringing me in and of course to [Run the Jewels collaborator] Wilder Zoby who was my right-hand man through the whole score. I loved helping create and getting lost in this twisted little trip into Al\u2019s mind. Much of the music on this score is directly from the movie and some of it is stuff that was created for the film but didn\u2019t survive the final cut.
