{"id":807764,"date":"2020-05-24T09:03:43","date_gmt":"2020-05-24T15:03:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/?p=1004704"},"modified":"2020-05-24T09:03:43","modified_gmt":"2020-05-24T15:03:43","slug":"journey-reveal-lineup-changes-randy-jacksons-return","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/ksmt\/music-news\/journey-reveal-lineup-changes-randy-jacksons-return\/","title":{"rendered":"Journey Reveal Lineup Changes, Randy Jackson\u2019s Return"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/GettyImages-142756570.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/journey\/\" id=\"auto-tag_journey\" data-tag=\"journey\">Journey<\/a>\u2019s Neal Schon announced a pair of lineup changes \u2014 including the return of bassist and <em>American Idol<\/em> judge Randy Jackson \u2014 Saturday following <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/journey-fire-ross-valory-steve-smith-lawsuit-962246\/\">an alleged coup attempt<\/a> by the band\u2019s now-former bassist and drummer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cOk Friends word is out!&nbsp;<span class=\"s2\">@randyjackson<\/span> RJ the Big Dawg is our new Bass player again,\u201d Schon wrote on social media, adding that Grammy-winning drummer Narada Michael Walden had also joined the latest Journey incarnation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Jackson previously served as Journey\u2019s bassist in the mid-Eighties, appearing on the band\u2019s 1986 LP <em>Raised on Radio<\/em>.<\/span> <span class=\"s1\">The new lineup made their debut Saturday with a socially distanced performance of \u201cDon\u2019t Stop Believin\u2019\u201d as part of the UNICEF Won\u2019t Stop fundraiser concert.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/NiLei3ZXfdE?version=3&amp;enablejsapi=1&amp;origin=https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com&amp;rel=1&amp;fs=1&amp;autohide=2&amp;showsearch=0&amp;showinfo=1&amp;iv_load_policy=1&amp;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\">[embedded content]<\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cJourney is an ever-changing unstoppable force,\u201d Schon <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NealSchonMusic\/status\/1264447767755108352\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">added<\/a> on Twitter. \u201cThis is a completely new chapter for us and can\u2019t wait to get to it!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Fans will have to wait a little longer to see Journey\u2019s new lineup in action after the band <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/journey-cancel-2020-tour-dates-coronavirus-993594\/\">canceled<\/a> their summer tour with the Pretenders due to the coronavirus pandemic.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">In March, Journey fired their longtime bassist Ross Valory and drummer Steve Smith after the two allegedly attempted to orchestrate a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/journey-fire-ross-valory-steve-smith-lawsuit-962246\/\">\u201cmalicious and very ill-conceived\u201d coup attempt<\/a> to wrestle control of the Rock Hall-inducted group\u2019s copyright away from Schon and Jonathan Cain; Valory and Smith later countersued their former band mates.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cThe Journey name is controlled by Neal Schon and Jonathan Cain,\u201d a lawyer for Cain and Schon told <em>Rolling Stone<\/em> at the time.<\/span> <span class=\"s1\">\u201cAnd for very good cause, they don\u2019t want to perform with Smith or Valory anymore, they don\u2019t want to have anything to do with them, and that\u2019s their right.
