Hayley Williams<\/a> stripped down SZA\u2019s \u201cDrew Barrymore\u201d for an acoustic Instagram cover.<\/p>\n

The Paramore singer adopted a smooth croon with subtle vibrato, switching between gentle fingerpicking and strums. She took a self-deprecating attitude toward the performance, muttering, \u201cWhatever\u201d at the end and captioning the video \u201cself-serenades \/ amateur hour.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cthis was weeks ago,\u201d she wrote of the cover. \u201cApril 11th, to be exact. have a few saved up. guess i\u2019ve been holding out on yall. the only constant for me (besides limp ass, unwashed, unfixed hair) in the age of covid, is a guitar and free reign to mess up all my favorite songs. here\u2019s \u2018Drew Barrymore\u2019 by queen @sza. please ignore my face.\u201d<\/p>\n

Williams released her debut solo LP, Petals for Armor<\/em><\/a>, in early May. The album \u2014 which follows Paramore\u2019s 2017 record, After Laughter<\/em><\/a> \u2014 features \u201cWhy We Ever,\u201d<\/a> \u201cOver Yet,\u201d \u201cMy Friend,\u201d Boygenius collaboration \u201cRoses\/Lotus\/Violet\/Iris\u201d and recent single \u201cDead Horse,\u201d<\/a> which she paired with a video directed by Paramore bandmate Zac Farro.<\/p>\n

In an Instagram statement accompanying \u201cWhy We Ever,\u201d Williams detailed the mindset and creative process that catalyzed the song.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn Dec 2018, I bought Pro Tools, an interface, and some speakers and decided to learn something new. These moments are from my first go at it (we\u2019re talking out of time\/phase\/tune\u2026 etc!\u2026).\u201d<\/p>\n

She continued, \u201cI was at the lowest point I\u2019d been in some time. My sadness shows. Now I look back and credit this night as being the beginning of a new season of my life, where I hold myself accountable for learning to love better. I\u2019ve let myself down a lot in love. This was the start of recognizing my bad patterns and acknowledging that I\u2019m ready to grow out of them.\u201d<\/p>\n
