Queen<\/a>\u2019s Brian May<\/a> revealed that he\u2019s feeling \u201cincredibly grateful\u201d after recovering from a \u201csmall heart attack\u201d that left him \u201cvery near death.\u201d<\/p>\n

And it\u2019s only part of a complicated medical ordeal for the guitarist, who was recently hospitalized after ripping his gluteus maximus<\/a> in what he calls a \u201cbizarre gardening accident.\u201d That incident left May in debilitating pain that puzzled his doctors. \u201cNo other test were done,\u201d he said in an Instagram<\/a> post. \u201cNow, a week later, [I was] still in agony. I mean, real agony. I wanted to jump at some point. I could not believe the pain.\u201d<\/p>\n

After a lower spine MRI, doctors discovered he had a \u201cquite severely\u201d compressed sciatic nerve. \u201cThat\u2019s why I had this feeling,\u201d he said, \u201cthat someone was putting a screwdriver in my back the whole time.\u201d (\u201cWhy did those discs in my spine get so squished?\u201d May mused in the post\u2019s caption. \u201cWell I think 50 years of running around with a guitar strap over my left shoulder holding a heavy guitar might have something to do with it!\u201d)<\/p>\n

Now able to properly treat his ailment, May finally recovered from the \u201cterrible pain, which actually destroys your mind.\u201d But as that health scare resolved, another developed.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the middle of the whole saga of the whole painful backside, I had a small heart attack. I say \u2018small,\u2019 you know \u2014 it\u2019s not something that did me any harm. It was about 40 minutes of pain in the chest and tightness and that feeling in the arms and sweating.\u201d<\/p>\n

After May\u2019s doctor drove him to the hospital, the musician was diagnosed with three congested arteries. Presented with his treatment options, he declined having open-heart surgery and instead had three stents put in.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m incredibly grateful that I now have a life to lead again,\u201d May said. \u201cI was actually very near death because of this, but the pain that I had was from something completely different, it\u2019s funny how things work. I\u2019m good; I\u2019m here; and I\u2019m ready to rock.\u201d<\/p>\n
