This led to a cascading series of gigs with vocalist Dinah Washington, pianist Wynton Kelly, and saxophonist Cannonball Adderley.<\/p>\n<p>His most famous work arrived at the end of that decade: Along with Davis\u2019 modal, melodic masterpiece <em>Kind of Blue<\/em> \u2014 which <em>Rolling Stone<\/em> named the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-lists\/500-greatest-albums-of-all-time-156826\/miles-davis-kind-of-blue-51767\/\">12th-best album of all time<\/a> \u2014&nbsp;he joined the trumpeter on several other albums, including 1959\u2019s <em>Porgy and Bess<\/em>, 1960\u2019s <em>Sketches of Spain<\/em>, 1961\u2019s <em>Someday My Prince Will Come,<\/em> and the 1962 live set <em>Miles Davis at Carnegie Hall<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>But <em>Kind of Blue<\/em> remains an unparalleled jazz landmark, and Cobb\u2019s shimmering cymbal work and feather-light pulse helped the album achieve its otherworldly sense of cool.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMiles would tell us all little things to do and then have us work off his idea,\u201d Cobb told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/articles\/news\/8527648\/miles-davis-kind-of-blue-drummer-jimmy-cobb-shares-miles-davis\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Billboard<\/em><\/a> in 2019. \u201cHe trusted all of us because he knew we were all good musicians. He didn\u2019t really have to do anything else but say what he wanted done. One time he tried to tell me something about playing the drums with both hands, and I turned to him said, \u2018Um, let me play the drums!\u2019 But we were good friends, so I could say things like that to him without worrying about getting fired.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In the late Fifties, Cobb also played on Wayne Shorter\u2019s debut LP, 1959\u2019s <em>Introducing Wayne Shorter<\/em>, and a string of albums from John Coltrane, including his influential 1960 record <em>Giant Steps<\/em> (on the song \u201cNaima\u201d).<\/p>\n<p>Cobb issued his first set as bandleader, <em>So Nobody Else Can Hear<\/em>, in 1983.
