The song arrives with a video, directed by Wayne Coyne and George Salisbury, that finds Coyne, wrapped in an American flag, wandering around a field \u2014 sometimes in his famous bubble ball \u2014 while sporadic fires flicker in the background.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">In a statement, Coyne said that \u201cFlowers of Neptune 6\u201d began as a series of melodies that Steven Drozd had crafted. \u201cThe first time he played it for me I was stunned by its emotional flow,\u201d Coyne said. \u201cThe three sections (well they seem like sections to me) seemed to hint at an older, mature mind reflecting back into a journey from younger innocence then starting to learn and understand and keeps going into the panic of becoming one with the world. The opening lyric \u2018Yellow sun is going down so slow\u2026 Doing acid and watching the light-bugs glow like tiny spaceships in a row\u2026\u2019 is the coolest thing I\u2019ll ever know\u2026 and is a combination of blissful, innocent, psychedelic experiences that Steven and Kacey Musgraves (she sings harmony with me on the track) and myself all discussed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cFlowers of Neptune 6\u201d marks the first new song from the Flaming Lips since their 2019 album, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-album-reviews\/flaming-lips-kings-head-860691\/\"><em>King\u2019s Mouth<\/em><\/a>. Back in March, though, the band Deap Lips \u2014 a collaboration between the Flaming Lips and Deap Vally \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/deap-lips-flaming-lips-deap-vally-steppenwolf-the-pusher-video-966852\/\">released their self-titled debut album<\/a>.
