Bono<\/a> introduced an all-star cover of U2<\/a>\u2019s \u201cBeautiful Day\u201d during YouTube\u2019s \u201cDear Class of 2020\u201d special<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The four-hour celebration advertised an appearance by \u201cFinneas<\/a> & Co,\u201d and the singer\/producer delivered a \u201cremix\u201d of U2\u2019s 2000 hit with a roster that included Coldplay\u2019s Chris Martin<\/a>, Camila Cabello<\/a>, Ty Dolla $ign, Tove Lo<\/a>, Khalid<\/a>, Leon Bridges, Cynthia Erivo, Ben Platt and Noah Cyrus.<\/span><\/p>\n

Prior to the rendition, Bono himself addressed the Class of 2020 with a mini-commencement speech that touched on the current state of America.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAs an Irishman, I\u2019ve always believed that America is not just a country, it\u2019s an idea, it\u2019s a dream that belongs to the whole world,\u201d Bono said.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cNow I know in recent times, the world is being reminded that America is an idea that doesn\u2019t even belong to a lot of Americans. And for many Black Americans, Lady Liberty\u2019s torch is far from a beacon of hope. It\u2019s often a flashlight in the face.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The singer continued, \u201cNow there were storm clouds over Dublin when U2 recorded \u2018Beautiful Day,\u2019 things were not as they might have been. But the song was not a description of where we were at, it was a prayer for where we could go, and a dream \u2014 like America is a dream \u2014 of where we might be. We now know that America is a song yet to be written. That America might be the greatest song the world has never heard. It\u2019s a wild thought, that America is yet to exist. And even wilder that the Class of 2020 might be the very people to bring it into being.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

YouTube\u2019s \u201cDear Class of 2020\u201d special also featured commencement speeches and appearances by Beyonce, Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, the Obamas, BTS, Lizzo, Justin Timberlake and dozens more.<\/span><\/p>\n

In May, Bono shared his \u201c60 Songs That Saved My Life<\/a>\u201d playlist with Rolling Stone<\/em>, with the singer listing \u201cEverything I Wanted\u201d by Finneas and his sister Billie Eilish.<\/p>\n
