Americana<\/a> luminary Melissa Etheridge<\/a> made rock history with her 1993 breakthrough album, Yes I Am<\/em> \u2014 a bold testament to her prowess as a singer-songwriter, as well as her lesbian identity.<\/p>\n

In Rolling Stone<\/em>\u2018s latest edition of \u201cIn My Room,\u201d she revives that same trailblazing spirit with an acoustic performance from her home in Los Angeles. \u201cHuman Chain,\u201d a track off her latest album, The Medicine Show,<\/em> \u201cis a song about how we\u2019re all connected through our great diversity,\u201d she tells Rolling Stone<\/em>. It\u2019s an especially timely number, given the recent super bloom of Black Lives Matter protests across the world. \u201cTime to come together, time for me to see,\u201d she sings heartily, \u201cMy brothers and my sisters, just another part of me.\u201d<\/p>\n

Etheridge chases her work song with a beloved classic: her 1993 hit, \u201cCome to My Window.\u201d The song, she muses, is fit for pining after loved ones in quarantine. \u201cSending out love to everyone who\u2019s been singing this song too much,\u201d she says, \u201cbecause their friends and neighbors and loved ones can only come to their window.\u201d<\/p>\n

The latest video was recorded just prior to the shattering loss of her son, Beckett Cypher<\/a>, who died on May 13th. \u201cI have made myself busy by fixing up my studio here in the house. It has healed me, greatly,\u201d wrote Etheridge today on Twitter<\/a>. \u201cWhile nothing but time will heal the empty space in my heart, I have been hopeful watching the world rise up and ask for more love. \u201cIn a few days I will make an announcement about the new plans to return to my music,\u201d she continued. \u201cI miss you all and am so grateful for your thoughts and well wishes.\u201d<\/p>\n
