Instead of wallowing in heartbreak, he celebrates how much more independent he feels and what he knows he deserves. \u201c<span>I don\u2019t mind to live all on my own\/And I never did,\u201d he sings above a tapestry of fuzzy, Nineties-influenced guitars and melodic synths. \u201cAnd<\/span> <span>I don\u2019t care to feel like I belong\/But you always did.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wrote \u2018On My Own\u2019 last summer after a breakup as a way to remind myself that while it sucked to lose someone I was getting used to, at least I\u2019m an introvert,\u201d he tells <em>Rolling Stone<\/em>. \u201cBut considering the pandemic, it\u2019s also morphed into an accidental quarantine anthem, especially for the people who live alone like me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span>Shamir is appropriately alone in the video, playing guitar and singing in a variety of close-up shots. \u201c<\/span>The video was shot around different places in my house during quarantine completely, well, on my own,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n<p>The 25-year-old\u2019s upcoming, as-yet-untitled full-length will be his \u201cmost commercial-sounding,\u201d per his own description, since his 2015 debut <em>Ratchet<\/em>. It\u2019s also his first album to feature multiple producers. For \u201cOn My Own,\u201d he enlisted Thin Lips\u2019 Kyle Pulley, who has previously worked with Diet Cig and Hop Along.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In March, Shamir surprise-released&nbsp;<em>Cataclysm<\/em>.
