The comics writer recalls being introduced to the band via 1987\u2019s <em>The Lost Boys,<\/em> particularly the Jim Morrison poster the vampire teens kept in their cave. Then, in 1992, she convinced her physics teachers to take her class to visit Morrison\u2019s grave during a class jaunt to Paris.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was pouring with rain, absolutely battering it down, and there was us, a really unpromising gang of nerdy 13- or 14-year-old kids in raincoats, but standing there at his grave felt monumental, truly epic,\u201d she tells <em>Rolling Stone<\/em>. \u201cAll the flowers, and the incense sticks, and the graffiti.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1012747\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1012747\" class=\"alignright wp-image-1012747 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/Morrison_Cover_C51-1-1-1.jpg?w=662\" alt width=\"662\" height=\"1024\"><\/p>\n<p id=\"image-credit-attachment-1012747\" class=\"rs-image-credit\">Z2 Comics<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Now, Moore is tasked with writing her favorite band\u2019s history in comic book form in honor of the 50th anniversary of 1970\u2019s <em>Morrison Hotel<\/em>. <a href=\"https:\/\/z2comics.com\/collections\/shop\/the-doors\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Due out October 13<\/a>, the Z2 Comics graphic novel will cover the album itself and the era that preceded it: the Vietnam War, the Civil Rights movement, the moon landing, the Charles Manson murders, the gigs the band played, the times they were arrested and the iconic musicians they met. According to Moore, John Lennon will make a cameo.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have loosely tied the stories to the tracks on the album, but also I am filling them with everything I can that puts you in that mindset, into that moment, where the album was made,\u201d Moore says. \u201cI mean, obviously you could write a whole book for each track, but I wanted the stories to just immerse you in one place.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Moore \u2014 daughter of <em>Watchman<\/em> writer Alan Moore \u2014 will also be working on the story with the surviving members of the band, Robby Krieger and John Densmore. \u201cIf I\u2019m honest with you, the idea of meeting those guys blows my mind,\u201d she says. \u201cThey\u2019re incredible, legendary people and artists, so just walking up and saying hi\u2026yeah, I\u2019m not sure that\u2019s even sunk in as a possibility.
