The Flaming Lips<\/a> shared their quirky vision of the COVID-19 concert experience on The Late Show<\/em> with a truly quarantined performance of \u201cRace for the Prize\u201d that featured both the band and the audience in their own personal bubbles.<\/span><\/p>\n

Giant inflatable bubbles have long been a staple<\/a> of Flaming Lips\u2019 gigs, with Wayne Coyne venturing into the crowd while trapped within its plastic confines. For the Late Show<\/em>, the Flaming Lips<\/a> placed everyone in their own individual bubbles to protect the crowd from the coronavirus pandemic.<\/span><\/p>\n

Unfortunately, Flaming Lips\u2019 ingenuity arrived after the 2020 Coachella festival was canceled<\/a> over lingering COVID-19 concerns.<\/span><\/p>\n

Coyne and company performed \u201cRace to the Prize\u201d to celebrate the recent release<\/a> of The Soft Bulletin: Live at Red Rocks featuring the Colorado Symphony Orchestra<\/em>, featuring a full-album orchestral performance of their classic 1999 LP.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Lips also recently released their new track \u201cFlowers of Neptune 6<\/a>\u201d featuring Kacey Musgraves. The song\u2019s music video similarly featured Coyne embarking on a journey while in his bubble.<\/span><\/p>\n
