{"id":2421328,"date":"2019-01-03T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2019-01-03T07:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.aspentimes.com\/?p=292067"},"modified":"2019-01-03T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2019-01-03T07:00:00","slug":"filmmaker-pete-mcbrides-into-the-canyon-to-premiere-at-wheeler-opera-house-in-february","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/kspn\/local-news\/filmmaker-pete-mcbrides-into-the-canyon-to-premiere-at-wheeler-opera-house-in-february\/","title":{"rendered":"Filmmaker Pete McBride\u2019s \u2018Into the Canyon\u2019 to premiere at Wheeler Opera House in February"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">&#8220;Into the Canyon,&#8221; the much anticipated documentary about <a id=\"N0xed24f0N0xefb630:N0xed24f0N0xed02b8\" href=\"https:\/\/www.aspentimes.com\/news\/basalt-photographer-pete-mcbride-hiked-the-grand-canyon-to-capture-grandeur-document-threats-for-national-geo\/\">photographer Pete McBride and writer Kevin Fedarko&#8217;s historic 2016 trek across the Grand Canyon<\/a>, will have its world premiere at the Wheeler Opera House on Feb. 9.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">The Wheeler announced the event Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">The one-night screening will be followed by a book-signing and talkback with the locally based McBride.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">The pair&#8217;s rare 750-mile journey through the canyon has drawn great local interest in recent years, including a sold-out lecture by McBride and Fedarko <a id=\"N0xed24f0N0xefb690:N0xed24f0N0xed04f8\" href=\"https:\/\/www.aspentimes.com\/entertainment\/tigger-and-eeyore-battle-the-grand-canyon-pete-mcbride-and-kevin-fedarko-at-aspen-winter-words\/\">at the Winter Words author series in 2017<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">&#8220;Our audiences have followed Pete through his project since 2016,&#8221; Wheeler executive director Gena Buhler said in the announcement. &#8220;We are proud to be hosting the film&#8217;s premiere, as our audiences will live the incredible journey of these daring filmmakers. The documentary&#8217;s inspiring environmental dialogue alongside the surprising (and many times funny) tales of Pete and Kevin&#8217;s journey will keep you on the edge of your seat.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">The pair&#8217;s multimedia chronicle of their trek already has included a 2016 story for National Geographic, a joint speaking tour, a book by McBride released in the fall and another forthcoming by Fedarko.<\/p>\n<div id=\"single-mid-script\" class=\"p402_hide\">\n<h2>Recommended Stories For You<\/h2>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">&#8220;This film has been on my radar for the past year,&#8221; Aspen Film executive director Susan Wrubel said in the announcement. &#8220;I have heard a few stories from the journey firsthand and love that this buddy film has a real environmental angle to it \u2014 something that resonates loudly in this valley. Having grown up here, Pete, a professional photographer, is a true spokesperson for the community and incredible advocate for conservation.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Tickets are $17 ($2 from each ticket will be donated to the Grand Canyon Trust). This event is co-presented by Aspen Film and the Wheeler Opera House.
